35a17eb6a8 [SPARC64]: Add PCI MSI support on Niagara.
This is kind of hokey, we could use the hardware provided facilities
much better.

MSIs are assosciated with MSI Queues. MSI Queues generate interrupts
when any MSI assosciated with it is signalled. This suggests a
two-tiered IRQ dispatch scheme:

MSI Queue interrupt --> queue interrupt handler
MSI dispatch --> driver interrupt handler

But we just get one-level under Linux currently. What I'd like to do
is possibly stick the IRQ actions into a per-MSI-Queue data structure,
and dispatch them form there, but the generic IRQ layer doesn't
provide a way to do that right now.

So, the current kludge is to "ACK" the interrupt by processing the
MSI Queue data structures and ACK'ing them, then we run the actual
handler like normal.

We are wasting a lot of useful information, for example the MSI data
and address are provided with ever MSI, as well as a system tick if
available. If we could pass this into the IRQ handler it could help
with certain things, in particular for PCI-Express error messages.

The MSI entries on sparc64 also tell you exactly which bus/device/fn
sent the MSI, which would be great for error handling when no
registered IRQ handler can service the interrupt.

We override the disable/enable IRQ chip methods in sun4v_msi, so we
have to call {mask,unmask}_msi_irq() directly from there. This is
another ugly wart.

68c9218694 [SPARC64] IRQ: Use irq_desc->chip_data instead of irq_desc->handler_data
Otherwise we can't use the generic MSI code.

Furthermore, properly use the {get,set}_irq_foo() abstracted
interfaces instead of direct accesses to irq_desc[]->foo.

86d43258bc [SPARC64]: Set g4/g5 properly in sun4v dtlb-prot handling.
Mirror the logic in the sun4u handler, we have to update
both registers even when we branch out to window fault
fixup handling.

The way it works is that if we are in etrap processing a
fault already, g4/g5 holds the original fault information.
If we take a window spill fault while doing etrap, then
we put the window spill fault info into g4/g5 and this is
what the top-level fault handler ends up processing first.

Then we retry the originally faulting instruction, and
process the original fault at that time.

This is all necessary because of how constrained the trap
registers are in these code paths. These cases trigger
very rarely, so even if there is some performance implication
it's doesn't happen very often. In fact the rarity is why
it took so long to trigger and find this particular bug.

b282b6f8a8 [PATCH] Change cpu_up and co from __devinit to __cpuinit
Compiling the kernel with CONFIG_HOTPLUG = y and CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU = n
with CONFIG_RELOCATABLE = y generates the following modpost warnings

WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from
.text between '_cpu_up' (at offset 0xc0141b7d) and 'cpu_up'
WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from

WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.text:__cpu_up
from .text between '_cpu_up' (at offset 0xc0141bd8) and 'cpu_up'
WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from
.text between '_cpu_up' (at offset 0xc0141c05) and 'cpu_up'
WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from

WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from
.text between '_cpu_up' (at offset 0xc0141c37) and 'cpu_up'

This is because cpu_up, _cpu_up and __cpu_up (in some architectures) are
defined as __devinit
AND
__cpu_up calls some __cpuinit functions.

Since __cpuinit would map to __init with this kind of a configuration,
we get a .text refering .init.data warning.

This patch solves the problem by converting all of __cpu_up, _cpu_up
and cpu_up from __devinit to __cpuinit. The approach is justified since
the callers of cpu_up are either dependent on CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU or
are of __init type.

Thus when CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU=y, all these cpu up functions would land up
in .text section, and when CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU=n, all these functions would
land up in .init section.

Tested on a i386 SMP machine running linux-2.6.20-rc3-mm1.

5cbded585d [PATCH] getting rid of all casts of k[cmz]alloc() calls

	  echo "De-casting $f..."
	  perl -pi -e "s/ ?= ?\([^\)]*\) *(k[cmz]alloc) *\(/ = \1\(/" $f
	done

And then go through and reinstate those cases where code is casting pointers
to non-pointers.

And then drop a few hunks which conflicted with outstanding work.

f088258966 [SPARC64]: Fix several kprobes bugs.
- relbranch_fixup(), for non-branches, would end up setting
regs->tnpc incorrectly, in fact it would set it equal to
regs->tpc which would cause that instruction to execute twice

Also, if this is not a PC-relative branch, we should just
leave regs->tnpc as-is. This covers cases like 'jmpl' which
  branch to absolute values.

- To be absolutely %100 safe, we need to flush the instruction
cache for all assignments to kprobe->ainsn.insn[], including
  cases like add_aggr_kprobe()

- prev_kprobe's status field needs to be 'unsigned long' to match
the type of the value it is saving

- jprobes were totally broken:
= jprobe_return() can run in the stack frame of the jprobe handler,
or in an even deeper stack frame, thus we'll be in the wrong
register window than the one from the original probe state.

So unwind using 'restore' instructions, if necessary, right
before we do the jprobe_return() breakpoint trap.

= There is no reason to save/restore the register window saved
at %sp at jprobe trigger time. Those registers cannot be
modified by the jprobe handler. Also, this code was saving
and restoring "sizeof (struct sparc_stackf)" bytes. Depending
upon the caller, this could clobber unrelated stack frame
pieces if there is only a basic 128-byte register window
stored on the stack, without the argument save area.

So just saving and restoring struct pt_regs is sufficient.

= Kill the "jprobe_saved_esp", totally unused.

Also, delete "jprobe_saved_regs_location", with the stack frame
unwind now done explicitly by jprobe_return(), this check is
    superfluous.

f0d1b0b30d [PATCH] LOG2: Implement a general integer log2 facility in the kernel
This facility provides three entry points:

ilog2() Log base 2 of unsigned long
	ilog2_u32()	Log base 2 of u32
	ilog2_u64()	Log base 2 of u64

These facilities can either be used inside functions on dynamic data:

	int do_something(long q)
	{
		...;
		y = ilog2(x)
		...;
	}

Or can be used to statically initialise global variables with constant values:

	unsigned n = ilog2(27);

When performing static initialisation, the compiler will report "error:
initializer element is not constant" if asked to take a log of zero or of
something not reducible to a constant. They treat negative numbers as
unsigned.

When not dealing with a constant, they fall back to using fls() which permits
them to use arch-specific log calculation instructions - such as BSR on
x86/x86_64 or SCAN on FRV - if available.

24ec839c43 [PATCH] tty: ->signal->tty locking
Fix the locking of signal->tty.

Use ->sighand->siglock to protect ->signal->tty; this lock is already used
by most other members of ->signal/->sighand. And unless we are 'current'
or the tasklist_lock is held we need ->siglock to access ->signal anyway.

(NOTE: sys_unshare() is broken wrt ->sighand locking rules)

Note that tty_mutex is held over tty destruction, so while holding
tty_mutex any tty pointer remains valid. Otherwise the lifetime of ttys
are governed by their open file handles. This leaves some holes for tty
access from signal->tty (or any other non file related tty access).

It solves the tty SLAB scribbles we were seeing.

(NOTE: the change from group_send_sig_info to __group_send_sig_info needs to
be examined by someone familiar with the security framework, I think
it is safe given the SEND_SIG_PRIV from other __group_send_sig_info
       invocations)

39dde65c99 [PATCH] shared page table for hugetlb page
Following up with the work on shared page table done by Dave McCracken. This
set of patch target shared page table for hugetlb memory only.

The shared page table is particular useful in the situation of large number of
independent processes sharing large shared memory segments. In the normal
page case, the amount of memory saved from process' page table is quite
significant. For hugetlb, the saving on page table memory is not the primary
objective (as hugetlb itself already cuts down page table overhead
significantly), instead, the purpose of using shared page table on hugetlb is
to allow faster TLB refill and smaller cache pollution upon TLB miss.

With PT sharing, pte entries are shared among hundreds of processes, the cache
consumption used by all the page table is smaller and in return, application
gets much higher cache hit ratio. One other effect is that cache hit ratio
with hardware page walker hitting on pte in cache will be higher and this
helps to reduce tlb miss latency. These two effects contribute to higher
application performance.

initialisation code isn't quite adequate as the device may have
incompatible requirements. The generic code tests for this, so switch
sparc64 over to using it.

Since sparc64 has different L1 cache line size and PCI cache line size,
it would need to override the generic code like i386 and ia64 do. We
know what the cache line size is at compile time though, so introduce a
new optional constant PCI_CACHE_LINE_BYTES.

afefdbb28a [PATCH] VFS: Make filldir_t and struct kstat deal in 64-bit inode numbers
These patches make the kernel pass 64-bit inode numbers internally when
communicating to userspace, even on a 32-bit system. They are required
because some filesystems have intrinsic 64-bit inode numbers: NFS3+ and XFS
for example. The 64-bit inode numbers are then propagated to userspace
automatically where the arch supports it.

Problems have been seen with userspace (eg: ld.so) using the 64-bit inode
number returned by stat64() or getdents64() to differentiate files, and
failing because the 64-bit inode number space was compressed to 32-bits, and
so overlaps occur.

This patch:

Make filldir_t take a 64-bit inode number and struct kstat carry a 64-bit
inode number so that 64-bit inode numbers can be passed back to userspace.

The stat functions then returns the full 64-bit inode number where
available and where possible. If it is not possible to represent the inode
number supplied by the filesystem in the field provided by userspace, then
error EOVERFLOW will be issued.

Similarly, the getdents/readdir functions now pass the full 64-bit inode
number to userspace where possible, returning EOVERFLOW instead when a
directory entry is encountered that can't be properly represented.

Note that this means that some inodes will not be stat'able on a 32-bit
system with old libraries where they were before - but it does mean that
there will be no ambiguity over what a 32-bit inode number refers to.

Note similarly that directory scans may be cut short with an error on a
32-bit system with old libraries where the scan would work before for the
same reasons.

It is judged unlikely that this situation will occur because modern glibc
uses 64-bit capable versions of stat and getdents class functions
exclusively, and that older systems are unlikely to encounter
unrepresentable inode numbers anyway.

fe74290d51 [PATCH] provide kernel_execve on all architectures
This adds the new kernel_execve function on all architectures that were using
_syscall3() to implement execve.

The implementation uses code from the _syscall3 macros provided in the

architectures, so the patch is untested with the exception of i386.

Most architectures can probably implement this in a nicer way in assembly or
by combining it with the sys_execve implementation itself, but this should do
it for now.

6760856791 [PATCH] introduce kernel_execve
The use of execve() in the kernel is dubious, since it relies on the
__KERNEL_SYSCALLS__ mechanism that stores the result in a global errno

global kernel_execve function that returns a proper error code.

This function is a terrible hack, and a later patch removes it again after the
kernel syscalls are gone.

3a872d89ba [PATCH] Kprobes: Make kprobe modules more portable
In an effort to make kprobe modules more portable, here is a patch that:

o Introduces the "symbol_name" field to struct kprobe.
The symbol->address resolution now happens in the kernel in an
architecture agnostic manner. 64-bit powerpc users no longer have
  to specify the ".symbols"
o Introduces the "offset" field to struct kprobe to allow a user to
specify an offset into a symbol.
o The legacy mechanism of specifying the kprobe.addr is still supported.
However, if both the kprobe.addr and kprobe.symbol_name are specified,
probe registration fails with an -EINVAL.
o The symbol resolution code uses kallsyms_lookup_name(). So
  CONFIG_KPROBES now depends on CONFIG_KALLSYMS
o Apparantly kprobe modules were the only legitimate out-of-tree user of
the kallsyms_lookup_name() EXPORT. Now that the symbol resolution
happens in-kernel, remove the EXPORT as suggested by Christoph Hellwig
o Modify tcp_probe.c that uses the kprobe interface so as to make it
work on multiple platforms (in its earlier form, the code wouldn't
  work, say, on powerpc)

8ef386092d [PATCH] kill wall_jiffies
With 2.6.18-rc4-mm2, now wall_jiffies will always be the same as jiffies.
So we can kill wall_jiffies completely.

This is just a cleanup and logically should not change any real behavior
except for one thing: RTC updating code in (old) ppc and xtensa use a
condition "jiffies - wall_jiffies == 1". This condition is never met so I
suppose it is just a bug. I just remove that condition only instead of
kill the whole "if" block.

3171a0305d [PATCH] simplify update_times (avoid jiffies/jiffies_64 aliasing problem)
Pass ticks to do_timer() and update_times(), and adjust x86_64 and s390
timer interrupt handler with this change.

Currently update_times() calculates ticks by "jiffies - wall_jiffies", but
callers of do_timer() should know how many ticks to update. Passing ticks
get rid of this redundant calculation. Also there are another redundancy
pointed out by Martin Schwidefsky.

This cleanup make a barrier added by
5aee405c66 needless. So this patch removes
it.

As a bonus, this cleanup make wall_jiffies can be removed easily, since now

715a0ecc29 [SPARC64]: Kill bogus check from bootmem_init().
There is an ancient and totally incorrect sanity check being
done on the ramdisk location. The check assumes that the
kernel is always loaded to physical address zero, which is
wrong. It was trying to validate the ramdisk value by saying that
if it fell within the kernel image address range it must be wrong.

Anyways, kill this because it actually creates problems. The
'ramdisk_image' should always be adjusted down by KERNBASE.
SILO can easily put the ramdisk in a location which causes
this test to trigger, breaking things.

Unfortunately, sparc64 doesn't have an easy way to do a "64 X 64 -->

3a45975681 [PATCH] IA64,sparc: local DoS with corrupted ELFs
This prevents cross-region mappings on IA64 and SPARC which could lead
to system crash. They were correctly trapped for normal mmap() calls,
but not for the kernel internal calls generated by executable loading.

This code just moves the architecture-specific cross-region checks into
an arch-specific "arch_mmap_check()" macro, and defines that for the
architectures that needed it (ia64, sparc and sparc64).

Architectures that don't have any special requirements can just ignore
the new cross-region check, since the mmap() code will just notice on
its own when the macro isn't defined.

47f2c3604f [SPARC64]: Fix X server hangs due to large pages.
This problem was introduced by changeset
14778d9072

Unlike the hugetlb code paths, the normal fault code is not setup to
propagate PTE changes for large page sizes correctly like the ones we
make for I/O mappings in io_remap_pfn_range().

It is absolutely necessary to update all sub-ptes of a largepage
mapping on a fault. Adding special handling for this would add
considerably complexity to tlb_batch_add(). So let's just side-step
the issue and forcefully dirty any writable PTEs created by
io_remap_pfn_range().

The only other real option would be to disable to large PTE code of
io_remap_pfn_range() and we really don't want to do that.

Much thanks to Mikael Pettersson for tracking down this problem and

a83f982313 [SPARC]: Fix OF register translations under sub-PCI busses.
There is an implicit assumption in the code that ranges will translate
to something that can fit in 2 32-bit cells, or a 64-bit value. For
certain kinds of things below PCI this isn't necessarily true.

Here is what the relevant OF device hierarchy looks like for one of
the serial controllers on an Ultra5:

    Node 0xf005f1e0
        ranges: 00000000.00000000.00000000.000001fe.01000000.00000000.01000000
                     01000000.00000000.00000000.000001fe.02000000.00000000.01000000
                     02000000.00000000.00000000.000001ff.00000000.00000001.00000000
                     03000000.00000000.00000000.000001ff.00000000.00000001.00000000
        device_type: 'pci'
        model: 'SUNW,sabre'

        Node 0xf005f9d4
            device_type: 'pci'
            model: 'SUNW,simba'

           Node 0xf0060d24
                ranges: 00000010.00000000 82010810.00000000.f0000000 01000000
			 00000014.00000000 82010814.00000000.f1000000 00800000
                name: 'ebus'

                Node 0xf0062dac
                    reg:  00000014.003083f8.00000008 --> 0x1ff.f13083f8
                    device_type: 'serial'
                    name: 'su'

So the correct translation here is:

1) Match "su" register to second ranges entry of 'ebus', which translates
into a PCI triplet "82010814.00000000.f1000000" of size 00800000, which
   gives us "82010814.00000000.f13083f8".

2) Pass-through "SUNW,simba" since it lacks ranges property

3) Match "82010814.00000000.f13083f8" to third ranges property of PCI
controller node 'SUNW,sabre', and we arrive at the final physical
   MMIO address of "0x1fff13083f8".

Due to the 2-cell assumption, we couldn't translate to a PCI 3-cell
value, and we couldn't perform a pass-thru on it either.

It was easiest to just stop splitting the ranges application operation
between two methods, ->map and ->translate, and just let ->map do all
the work. That way it would work purely on 32-bit cell arrays instead
of having to "return" some value like a u64.

It's still not %100 correct because the out-of-range check is still
done using the 64 least significant bits of the range and address.
But it does work for all the cases I've thrown at it so far.

289fbc21ea [PATCH] disallow modular binfmt_elf32
Currently most architectures either always build binfmt_elf32 in the kernel
image or make it a boolean option. Only sparc64 and s390 allow to build it
modularly. This patch turns the option into a boolean aswell because elf
requires various symbols that shouldn't be available to modules. The most
urgent one is tasklist_lock whos export this patch series kills, but there
are others like force_sgi aswell.

Note that sparc doesn't allow a modular 32bit a.out handler either, and
that would be the more useful case as only few people want 32bit sunos
compatibility and 99.9% of all sparc64 users need 32bit linux native elf
support.

2b1e597871 [SPARC64]: of_device layer IRQ resolution
Do IRQ determination generically by parsing the PROM properties,
and using IRQ controller drivers for final resolution.

One immediate positive effect is that all of the IRQ frobbing
in the EBUS, ISA, and PCI controller layers has been eliminated.
We just look up the of_device and use the properly computed
value.

The PCI controller irq_build() routines are gone and no longer
used. Unfortunately sbus_build_irq() has to remain as there is
a direct reference to this in the sunzilog driver. That can be
killed off once the sparc32 side of this is written and the
sunzilog driver is transformed into an "of" bus driver.

d1bef4ed5f [PATCH] genirq: rename desc->handler to desc->chip
This patch-queue improves the generic IRQ layer to be truly generic, by adding
various abstractions and features to it, without impacting existing
functionality.

While the queue can be best described as "fix and improve everything in the
generic IRQ layer that we could think of", and thus it consists of many
smaller features and lots of cleanups, the one feature that stands out most is
the new 'irq chip' abstraction.

The irq-chip abstraction is about describing and coding and IRQ controller
driver by mapping its raw hardware capabilities [and quirks, if needed] in a
straightforward way, without having to think about "IRQ flow"
(level/edge/etc.) type of details.

This stands in contrast with the current 'irq-type' model of genirq
architectures, which 'mixes' raw hardware capabilities with 'flow' details.
The patchset supports both types of irq controller designs at once, and
converts i386 and x86_64 to the new irq-chip design.

As a bonus side-effect of the irq-chip approach, chained interrupt controllers
(master/slave PIC constructs, etc.) are now supported by design as well.

The end result of this patchset intends to be simpler architecture-level code
and more consolidation between architectures.

We reused many bits of code and many concepts from Russell King's ARM IRQ
layer, the merging of which was one of the motivations for this patchset.

This patch:

rename desc->handler to desc->chip.

Originally i did not want to do this, because it's a big patch. But having
both "desc->handler", "desc->handle_irq" and "action->handler" caused a
large degree of confusion and made the code appear alot less clean than it
truly is.

I have also attempted a dual approach as well by introducing a
desc->chip alias - but that just wasnt robust enough and broke
frequently.

So lets get over with this quickly. The conversion was done automatically
via scripts and converts all the code in the kernel.

This renaming patch is the first one amongst the patches, so that the
remaining patches can stay flexible and can be merged and split up
without having some big monolithic patch act as a merge barrier.

76b67ed9dc [PATCH] node hotplug: register cpu: remove node struct
With Goto-san's patch, we can add new pgdat/node at runtime. I'm now
considering node-hot-add with cpu + memory on ACPI.

I found acpi container, which describes node, could evaluate cpu before
memory. This means cpu-hot-add occurs before memory hot add.

In most part, cpu-hot-add doesn't depend on node hot add. But register_cpu(),
which creates symbolic link from node to cpu, requires that node should be
onlined before register_cpu(). When a node is onlined, its pgdat should be
there.

This patch-set holds off creating symbolic link from node to cpu
until node is onlined.

This removes node arguments from register_cpu().

Now, register_cpu() requires 'struct node' as its argument. But the array of
struct node is now unified in driver/base/node.c now (By Goto's node hotplug
patch). We can get struct node in generic way. So, this argument is not
necessary now.

This patch also guarantees add cpu under node only when node is onlined. It
is necessary for node-hot-add vs. cpu-hot-add patch following this.

Moreover, register_cpu calculates cpu->node_id by cpu_to_node() without regard
to its 'struct node *root' argument. This patch removes it.

Also modify callers of register_cpu()/unregister_cpu, whose args are changed
by register-cpu-remove-node-struct patch.

c2a5a46be4 [SPARC64]: Fix for Niagara memory corruption.
On some sun4v systems, after netboot the ethernet controller and it's
DMA mappings can be left active. The net result is that the kernel
can end up using memory the ethernet controller will continue to DMA
into, resulting in corruption.

To deal with this, we are more careful about importing IOMMU
translations which OBP has left in the IO-TLB. If the mapping maps
into an area the firmware claimed was free and available memory for
the kernel to use, we demap instead of import that IOMMU entry.

This is going to cause the network chip to take a PCI master abort on
the next DMA it attempts, if it has been left going like this. All
tests show that this is handled properly by the PCI layer and the e1000
drivers.

726c334223 [PATCH] VFS: Permit filesystem to perform statfs with a known root dentry
Give the statfs superblock operation a dentry pointer rather than a superblock
pointer.

This complements the get_sb() patch. That reduced the significance of
sb->s_root, allowing NFS to place a fake root there. However, NFS does
require a dentry to use as a target for the statfs operation. This permits
the root in the vfsmount to be used instead.

linux/mount.h has been added where necessary to make allyesconfig build
successfully.

Interest has also been expressed for use with the FUSE and XFS filesystems.

e18e2a00ef [SPARC64]: Move over to GENERIC_HARDIRQS.
This is the long overdue conversion of sparc64 over to
the generic IRQ layer.

The kernel image is slightly larger, but the BSS is ~60K
smaller due to the reduced size of struct ino_bucket.

A lot of IRQ implementation details, including ino_bucket,
were moved out of asm-sparc64/irq.h and are now private to
arch/sparc64/kernel/irq.c, and most of the code in irq.c
totally disappeared.

One thing that's different at the moment is IRQ distribution,
we do it at enable_irq() time. If the cpu mask is ALL then
we round-robin using a global rotating cpu counter, else
we pick the first cpu in the mask to support single cpu
targetting. This is similar to what powerpc's XICS IRQ
support code does.

This works fine on my UP SB1000, and the SMP build goes
fine and runs on that machine, but lots of testing on
different setups is needed.

8047e247c8 [SPARC64]: Virtualize IRQ numbers.
Inspired by PowerPC XICS interrupt support code.

All IRQs are virtualized in order to keep NR_IRQS from needing
to be too large. Interrupts on sparc64 are arbitrary 11-bit
values, but we don't need to define NR_IRQS to 2048 if we
virtualize the IRQs.

As PCI and SBUS controller drivers build device IRQs, we divy
out virtual IRQ numbers incrementally starting at 1. Zero is
a special virtual IRQ used for the timer interrupt.

So device drivers all see virtual IRQs, and all the normal
interfaces such as request_irq(), enable_irq(), etc. translate
that into a real IRQ number in order to configure the IRQ.

At this point knowledge of the struct ino_bucket is almost
entirely contained within arch/sparc64/kernel/irq.c There are
a few small bits in the PCI controller drivers that need to
be swept away before we can remove ino_bucket's definition
out of asm-sparc64/irq.h and privately into kernel/irq.c

e041c68341 [PATCH] Notifier chain update: API changes
The kernel's implementation of notifier chains is unsafe. There is no
protection against entries being added to or removed from a chain while the
chain is in use. The issues were discussed in this thread:

    http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=113018709002036&w=2

We noticed that notifier chains in the kernel fall into two basic usage
classes:

"Blocking" chains are always called from a process context
	and the callout routines are allowed to sleep;

"Atomic" chains can be called from an atomic context and
the callout routines are not allowed to sleep.

We decided to codify this distinction and make it part of the API. Therefore
this set of patches introduces three new, parallel APIs: one for blocking
notifiers, one for atomic notifiers, and one for "raw" notifiers (which is
really just the old API under a new name). New kinds of data structures are
used for the heads of the chains, and new routines are defined for
registration, unregistration, and calling a chain. The three APIs are
explained in include/linux/notifier.h and their implementation is in
kernel/sys.c.

With atomic and blocking chains, the implementation guarantees that the chain
links will not be corrupted and that chain callers will not get messed up by
entries being added or removed. For raw chains the implementation provides no
guarantees at all; users of this API must provide their own protections. (The
idea was that situations may come up where the assumptions of the atomic and
blocking APIs are not appropriate, so it should be possible for users to
handle these things in their own way.)

There are some limitations, which should not be too hard to live with. For
atomic/blocking chains, registration and unregistration must always be done in
a process context since the chain is protected by a mutex/rwsem. Also, a
callout routine for a non-raw chain must not try to register or unregister
entries on its own chain. (This did happen in a couple of places and the code
had to be changed to avoid it.)

Since atomic chains may be called from within an NMI handler, they cannot use
spinlocks for synchronization. Instead we use RCU. The overhead falls almost
entirely in the unregister routine, which is okay since unregistration is much
less frequent that calling a chain.

Here is the list of chains that we adjusted and their classifications. None
of them use the raw API, so for the moment it is only a placeholder.

net/ipv4/devinet.c: inetaddr_chain

It's possible that some of these classifications are wrong. If they are,
please let us know or submit a patch to fix them. Note that any chain that
gets called very frequently should be atomic, because the rwsem read-locking
used for blocking chains is very likely to incur cache misses on SMP systems.
(However, if the chain's callout routines may sleep then the chain cannot be
atomic.)

The patch set was written by Alan Stern and Chandra Seetharaman, incorporating
material written by Keith Owens and suggestions from Paul McKenney and Andrew
Morton.

b67000962f [PATCH] kprobes: fix broken fault handling for sparc64
Provide proper kprobes fault handling, if a user-specified pre/post handlers
tries to access user address space, through copy_from_user(), get_user() etc.

The user-specified fault handler gets called only if the fault occurs while
executing user-specified handlers. In such a case user-specified handler is
allowed to fix it first, later if the user-specifed fault handler does not fix
it, we try to fix it by calling fix_exception().

The user-specified handler will not be called if the fault happens when single
stepping the original instruction, instead we reset the current probe and
allow the system page fault handler to fix it up.

I could not test this patch for sparc64.

When we stop allocating percpu memory for not-possible CPUs we must not touch

42b88befd6 [PATCH] hugepage: is_aligned_hugepage_range() cleanup
Quite a long time back, prepare_hugepage_range() replaced
is_aligned_hugepage_range() as the callback from mm/mmap.c to arch code to
verify if an address range is suitable for a hugepage mapping.
is_aligned_hugepage_range() stuck around, but only to implement
prepare_hugepage_range() on archs which didn't implement their own.

Most archs (everything except ia64 and powerpc) used the same
implementation of is_aligned_hugepage_range(). On powerpc, which
implements its own prepare_hugepage_range(), the custom version was never
used.

In addition, "is_aligned_hugepage_range()" was a bad name, because it
suggests it returns true iff the given range is a good hugepage range,
whereas in fact it returns 0-or-error (so the sense is reversed).

This patch cleans up by abolishing is_aligned_hugepage_range(). Instead
prepare_hugepage_range() is defined directly. Most archs use the default
version, which simply checks the given region is aligned to the size of a
hugepage. ia64 and powerpc define custom versions. The ia64 one simply
checks that the range is in the correct address space region in addition to
being suitably aligned. The powerpc version (just as previously) checks
for suitable addresses, and if necessary performs low-level MMU frobbing to
set up new areas for use by hugepages.

No libhugetlbfs testsuite regressions on ppc64 (POWER5 LPAR).

7a1ac52641 [SPARC64]: Fix and re-enable dynamic TSB sizing.
This is good for up to %50 performance improvement of some test cases.
The problem has been the race conditions, and hopefully I've plugged
them all up here.

1) There was a serious race in switch_mm() wrt. lazy TLB
switching to and from kernel threads.

We could erroneously skip a tsb_context_switch() and thus
use a stale TSB across a TSB grow event.

There is a big comment now in that function describing
   exactly how it can happen.

2) All code paths that do something with the TSB need to be
guarded with the mm->context.lock spinlock. This makes
page table flushing paths properly synchronize with both
TSB growing and TLB context changes.

3) TSB growing events are moved to the end of successful fault
processing. Previously it was in update_mmu_cache() but
that is deadlock prone. At the end of do_sparc64_fault()
we hold no spinlocks that could deadlock the TSB grow
sequence. We also have dropped the address space semaphore.

While we're here, add prefetching to the copy_tsb() routine
and put it in assembler into the tsb.S file. This piece of
code is quite time critical.

There are some small negative side effects to this code which
can be improved upon. In particular we grab the mm->context.lock
even for the tsb insert done by update_mmu_cache() now and that's
a bit excessive. We can get rid of that locking, and the same
lock taking in flush_tsb_user(), by disabling PSTATE_IE around
the whole operation including the capturing of the tsb pointer
and tsb_nentries value. That would work because anyone growing
the TSB won't free up the old TSB until all cpus respond to the
TSB change cross call.

I'm not quite so confident in that optimization to put it in
right now, but eventually we might be able to and the description
is here for reference.

This code seems very solid now. It passes several parallel GCC
bootstrap builds, and our favorite "nut cruncher" stress test which is
a full "make -j8192" build of a "make allmodconfig" kernel. That puts
about 256 processes on each cpu's run queue, makes lots of process cpu
migrations occur, causes lots of page table and TLB flushing activity,
incurs many context version number changes, and it swaps the machine
real far out to disk even though there is 16GB of ram on this test
system. :-)

This is yet another sparc64 bug which has been with us

1) Pass min_low_pfn to init_bootmem_node(), it's identical

2) max_mapnr, although no longer used, was being set

The UltraSPARC T1 manual recommends this because the chip
could instruction prefetch into the VA hole, and this would
also make decoding certain kinds of memory access traps
more difficult (because the chip sign extends certain pieces
of trap state).

45f791eb0f [SPARC64]: Fix _PAGE_EXEC handling.
First of all, use the known _PAGE_EXEC_{4U,4V} value instead
of loading _PAGE_EXEC from memory. We either know which one
to use by context, or we can code patch the test.

Next, we need to check executability of a PTE in the generic
TSB miss handler.

b830ab665a [SPARC64]: Fix bugs in SUN4V cpu mondo dispatch.
There were several bugs in the SUN4V cpu mondo dispatch code.

In fact, if we ever got a EWOULDBLOCK or other error from
the hypervisor call, we'd potentially send a cpu mondo multiple
times to the same cpu and even worse we could loop until the
timeout resending the same mondo over and over to such cpus.

So let's bulletproof this thing as follows:

1) Implement cpu_mondo_send() and cpu_state() hypervisor calls
in arch/sparc64/kernel/entry.S, add prototypes to asm/hypervisor.h

2) Don't build and update the cpulist using inline functions, this
was causing the cpu mask to not get updated in the caller.

3) Disable interrupts during the entire mondo send, otherwise our
cpu list and/or mondo block could get overwritten if we take
an interrupt and do a cpu mondo send on the current cpu.

4) Check for all possible error return types from the cpu_mondo_send()
   hypervisor call. In particular:

HV_EOK) Our work is done, all cpus have received the mondo.
HV_CPUERROR) One or more of the cpus in the cpu list we passed
to the hypervisor are in error state. Use cpu_state()
calls over the entries in the cpu list to see which
ones. Record them in "error_mask" and report this
after we are done sending the mondo to cpus which are
		not in error state.
HV_EWOULDBLOCK) We need to keep trying.

Any other error we consider fatal, we report the event and exit
   immediately.

5) We only timeout if forward progress is not made. Forward progress
is defined as having at least one cpu get the mondo successfully
in a given cpu_mondo_send() call. Otherwise we bump a counter
and delay a little. If the counter hits a limit, we signal an
   error and report the event.

Also, smp_call_function_mask() error handling reports the number
of cpus incorrectly.

1) We must flush the TLB, duh.

2) Even if the sw context was seen to be valid, the local cpu's
hw context can be out of date, so reload it unconditionally.
