3ca8fbabcc Revert "kobject: Remove redundant checks for whether ktype is NULL"
This reverts commit 1b28cb81da.

It is reported to cause problems, so revert it for now until the root
cause can be found.

1b28cb81da kobject: Remove redundant checks for whether ktype is NULL
When adding koject or kset, we have made sure that ktype cannot be NULL.
Therefore, after adding koject or kset, there is no need to worry about
ktype being NULL. Clear all ktype-related redundancy checks.

4d0fe8c52b kobject: Add sanity check for kset->kobj.ktype in kset_register()
When I register a kset in the following way:
	static struct kset my_kset;
	kobject_set_name(&my_kset.kobj, "my_kset");
        ret = kset_register(&my_kset);

According to the description in Documentation/core-api/kobject.rst:
 - A ktype is the type of object that embeds a kobject. Every structure
that embeds a kobject needs a corresponding ktype.

So add sanity check to make sure kset->kobj.ktype is not NULL.

64414da25b kobject: align stacktrace levels to logging message
Without an explicit level the stacktraces are printed at a default
level.
If this level does not match the one from the logging level it may
happen that the stacktrace is shown without the message or vice versa.

Both these cases are confusing, so make sure the user always sees both,
the message and the stacktrace.

3bb2a01caa kobject: Fix slab-out-of-bounds in fill_kobj_path()
In kobject_get_path(), if kobj->name is changed between calls
get_kobj_path_length() and fill_kobj_path() and the length becomes
longer, then fill_kobj_path() will have an out-of-bounds bug.

The actual current problem occurs when the ixgbe probe.

In ixgbe_mii_bus_init(), if the length of netdev->dev.kobj.name
length becomes longer, out-of-bounds will occur.

71a7507afb Driver Core changes for 6.2-rc1
Here is the set of driver core and kernfs changes for 6.2-rc1.

The "big" change in here is the addition of a new macro,
container_of_const() that will preserve the "const-ness" of a pointer
 passed into it.

The "problem" of the current container_of() macro is that if you pass in
a "const *", out of it can comes a non-const pointer unless you
specifically ask for it. For many usages, we want to preserve the
"const" attribute by using the same call. For a specific example, this
series changes the kobj_to_dev() macro to use it, allowing it to be used
no matter what the const value is. This prevents every subsystem from
having to declare 2 different individual macros (i.e.
kobj_const_to_dev() and kobj_to_dev()) and having the compiler enforce
the const value at build time, which having 2 macros would not do
 either.

The driver for all of this have been discussions with the Rust kernel
developers as to how to properly mark driver core, and kobject, objects
as being "non-mutable". The changes to the kobject and driver core in
this pull request are the result of that, as there are lots of paths
where kobjects and device pointers are not modified at all, so marking
them as "const" allows the compiler to enforce this.

So, a nice side affect of the Rust development effort has been already
to clean up the driver core code to be more obvious about object rules.

All of this has been bike-shedded in quite a lot of detail on lkml with
different names and implementations resulting in the tiny version we
have in here, much better than my original proposal. Lots of subsystem
maintainers have acked the changes as well.

Other than this change, included in here are smaller stuff like:
   - kernfs fixes and updates to handle lock contention better
   - vmlinux.lds.h fixes and updates
   - sysfs and debugfs documentation updates
   - device property updates

All of these have been in the linux-next tree for quite a while with no
problems, OTHER than some merge issues with other trees that should be
obvious when you hit them (block tree deletes a driver that this tree
modifies, iommufd tree modifies code that this tree also touches). If
there are merge problems with these trees, please let me know.

the kobject passed to it. Change that, and the functions
kobj_child_ns_ops() and kobj_ns_ops() needed to also be changed to const
*.

02a476d932 kobject: make kobject_get_ownership() take a constant kobject *
The call, kobject_get_ownership(), does not modify the kobject passed
into it, so make it const. This propagates down into the kobj_type
function callbacks so make the kobject passed into them also const,
ensuring that nothing in the kobject is being changed here.

This helps make it more obvious what calls and callbacks do, and do not,
modify structures passed to them.

1662cea462 kset: fix memory leak when kset_register() returns error
Inject fault while loading module, kset_register() may fail.
If it fails, the kset.kobj.name allocated by kobject_set_name()
which must be called before a call to kset_register() may be
leaked, since refcount of kobj was set in kset_init().

To mitigate this, we free the name in kset_register() when an
error is encountered, i.e. when kset_register() returns an error.

A kset may be embedded in a larger structure which may be dynamically
allocated in callers, it needs to be freed in ktype.release() or error
path in callers, in this case, we can not call kset_put() in kset_register(),
or it will cause double free, so just call kfree_const() to free the
name and set it to NULL to avoid accessing bad pointer in callers.

With this fix, the callers don't need care about freeing the name
and may call kset_put() if kset_register() fails.

cdb4f26a63 kobject: kobj_type: remove default_attrs
Now that all in-kernel users of default_attrs for the kobj_type are gone
and converted to properly use the default_groups pointer instead, it can
be safely removed.

There is one standard way to create sysfs files in a kobj_type, and not
two like before, causing confusion as to which should be used.

The function kobject_create() is only used by one caller,

079ad2fb4b kobject: Avoid premature parent object freeing in kobject_cleanup()
If kobject_del() is invoked by kobject_cleanup() to delete the
target kobject, it may cause its parent kobject to be freed
before invoking the target kobject's ->release() method, which
effectively means freeing the parent before dealing with the
child entirely.

That is confusing at best and it may also lead to functional
issues if the callers of kobject_cleanup() are not careful enough
about the order in which these calls are made, so avoid the
problem by making kobject_cleanup() drop the last reference to
the target kobject's parent at the end, after invoking the target
kobject's ->release() method.

drop the parent reference only when __kobject_del() has been

0e5596c54a kobject: send KOBJ_REMOVE uevent when the object is removed from sysfs
It is possible for a KOBJ_REMOVE uevent to be sent to userspace way
after the files are actually gone from sysfs, due to how reference
counting for kobjects work. This should not be a problem, but it would
be good to properly send the information when things are going away, not
at some later point in time in the future.

Before this move, if a kobject's parent was torn down before the child,
when the call to kobject_uevent() happened, the parent walk to try to
reconstruct the full path of the kobject could be a total mess and cause
crashes. It's not good to try to tear down a kobject tree from top
down, but let's at least try to not to crash if a user does so.

5f81880d52 sysfs, kobject: allow creating kobject belonging to arbitrary users
Normally kobjects and their sysfs representation belong to global root,
however it is not necessarily the case for objects in separate namespaces.
For example, objects in separate network namespace logically belong to the
container's root and not global root.

This change lays groundwork for allowing network namespace objects
ownership to be transferred to container's root user by defining
get_ownership() callback in ktype structure and using it in sysfs code to
retrieve desired uid/gid when creating sysfs objects for given kobject.

The majority of the work here is in the firmware subsystem, with
reworks to try to attempt to make the code easier to handle in the
long run, but no functional change. There's also some tree-wide sysfs
attribute fixups with lots of acks from the various subsystem
maintainers, as well as a handful of other normal fixes and changes.

And finally, some license cleanups for the driver core and sysfs code.

All have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues"

172856eac7 kobject: Export kobj_ns_grab_current() and kobj_ns_drop()
Make it possible to call these two functions from a kernel module.
Note: despite their name, these two functions can be used meaningfully
independent of kobjects. A later patch will add calls to these
functions from the SRP driver because this patch series modifies the
SRP driver such that it can hold a reference to a namespace that can
last longer than the lifetime of the process through which the
namespace reference was obtained.

045c5f75b7 kobject: Remove redundant license text
Now that the SPDX tag is in all kobject files, that identifies the
license in a specific and legally-defined manner. So the extra GPL text
wording can be removed as it is no longer needed at all.

This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in
the kernel describe the GPL license text. And there's unneeded stuff
like the address (sometimes incorrect) for the FSF which is never
needed.

No copyright headers or other non-license-description text was removed.

d9d16e16a3 kobject: add SPDX identifiers to all kobject files
It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to
audit the kernel tree for correct licenses.

Update the kobject files files with the correct SPDX license identifier
based on the license text in the file itself. The SPDX identifier is a
legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler
plate text.

f773f32d71 lib/kobject.c: use kvasprintf_const for formatting ->name
Sometimes kobject_set_name_vargs is called with a format string conaining
no %, or a format string of precisely "%s", where the single vararg
happens to point to .rodata. kvasprintf_const detects these cases for us
and returns a copy of that pointer instead of duplicating the string, thus
saving some run-time memory. Otherwise, it falls back to kvasprintf. We
just need to always deallocate ->name using kfree_const.

Unfortunately, the dance we need to do to perform the '/' -> '!'
sanitization makes the resulting code rather ugly.

I instrumented kstrdup_const to provide some statistics on the memory
saved, and for me this gave an additional ~14KB after boot (306KB was
already saved; this patch bumped that to 320KB). I have
KMALLOC_SHIFT_LOW==3, and since 80% of the kvasprintf_const hits were
satisfied by an 8-byte allocation, the 14K would roughly be quadrupled
when KMALLOC_SHIFT_LOW==5. Whether these numbers are sufficient to
justify the ugliness I'll leave to others to decide.

8db1486065 include, lib: add __printf attributes to several function prototypes
Using __printf attributes helps to detect several format string issues
at compile time (even though -Wformat-security is currently disabled in
Makefile). For example it can detect when formatting a pointer as a
number, like the issue fixed in commit a3fa71c40f ("wl18xx: show
rx_frames_per_rates as an array as it really is"), or when the arguments
do not match the format string, c.f. for example commit 5ce1aca814
("reiserfs: fix __RASSERT format string").

To prevent similar bugs in the future, add a __printf attribute to every
function prototype which needs one in include/linux/ and lib/. These
functions were mostly found by using gcc's -Wsuggest-attribute=format
flag.
