85865c1fa1 ima: add policy support for file system uuid
The IMA policy permits specifying rules to enable or disable
measurement/appraisal/audit based on the file system magic number.
If, for example, the policy contains an ext4 measurement rule,
the rule is enabled for all ext4 partitions.

Sometimes it might be necessary to enable measurement/appraisal/audit
only for one partition and disable it for another partition of the
same type. With the existing IMA policy syntax, this can not be done.

This patch provides support for IMA policy rules to specify the file
system by its UUID (eg. fsuuid=397449cd-687d-4145-8698-7fed4a3e0363).

For partitions not being appraised, it might be a good idea to mount
file systems with the 'noexec' option to prevent executing non-verified
binaries.

74de668424 evm: add file system uuid to EVM hmac
EVM uses the same key for all file systems to calculate the HMAC,
making it possible to paste inodes from one file system on to another
one, without EVM being able to detect it. To prevent such an attack,
it is necessary to make the EVM HMAC file system specific.

This patch uses the file system UUID, a file system unique identifier,
to bind the EVM HMAC to the file system. The value inode->i_sb->s_uuid
is used for the HMAC hash calculation, instead of using it for deriving
the file system specific key. Initializing the key for every inode HMAC
calculation is a bit more expensive operation than adding the uuid to
the HMAC hash.

Changing the HMAC calculation method or adding additional info to the
calculation, requires existing EVM labeled file systems to be relabeled.
This patch adds a Kconfig HMAC version option for backwards compatability.

Changelog v1:
- squash "hmac version setting"
Changelog v0:
- add missing Kconfig depends (Mimi)

5a73fcfa88 ima: differentiate appraise status only for hook specific rules
Different hooks can require different methods for appraising a
file's integrity. As a result, an integrity appraisal status is
cached on a per hook basis.

Only a hook specific rule, requires the inode to be re-appraised.
This patch eliminates unnecessary appraisals.

d79d72e024 ima: per hook cache integrity appraisal status
With the new IMA policy 'appraise_type=' option, different hooks
can require different methods for appraising a file's integrity.

For example, the existing 'ima_appraise_tcb' policy defines a
generic rule, requiring all root files to be appraised, without
specfying the appraisal method. A more specific rule could require
all kernel modules, for example, to be signed.

appraise fowner=0 func=MODULE_CHECK appraise_type=imasig
appraise fowner=0

As a result, the integrity appraisal results for the same inode, but
for different hooks, could differ. This patch caches the integrity
appraisal results on a per hook basis.

Changelog v2:
- Rename ima_cache_status() to ima_set_cache_status()
- Rename and move get_appraise_status() to ima_get_cache_status()
Changelog v0:
- include IMA_APPRAISE/APPRAISED_SUBMASK in IMA_DO/DONE_MASK (Dmitry)
- Support independent MODULE_CHECK appraise status.
- fixed IMA_XXXX_APPRAISE/APPRAISED flags

8606404fa5 ima: digital signature verification support
This patch adds support for digital signature based integrity appraisal.
With this patch, 'security.ima' contains either the file data hash or
a digital signature of the file data hash. The file data hash provides
the security attribute of file integrity. In addition to file integrity,
a digital signature provides the security attribute of authenticity.

Unlike EVM, when the file metadata changes, the digital signature is
replaced with an HMAC, modification of the file data does not cause the
'security.ima' digital signature to be replaced with a hash. As a
result, after any modification, subsequent file integrity appraisals
would fail.

Although digitally signed files can be modified, but by not updating
'security.ima' to reflect these modifications, in essence digitally
signed files could be considered 'immutable'.

IMA uses a different keyring than EVM. While the EVM keyring should not
be updated after initialization and locked, the IMA keyring should allow
updating or adding new keys when upgrading or installing packages.

Changelog v4:

policy, which appraises all files owned by root, and defines 'ima_appraise_tcb',
a new boot command line option, to enable the appraise policy.

Changelog v3:
- separate the measure from the appraise rules in order to support measuring
  without appraising and appraising without measuring.
- change appraisal default for filesystems without xattr support to fail
- update default appraise policy for cgroups

Changelog v1:
- don't appraise RAMFS (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- merged rest of "ima: ima_must_appraise_or_measure API change" commit
  (Dmtiry Kasatkin)

  ima_must_appraise_or_measure() called ima_match_policy twice, which
  searched the policy for a matching rule. Once for a matching measurement
  rule and subsequently for an appraisal rule. Searching the policy twice
  is unnecessary overhead, which could be noticeable with a large policy.

  The new version of ima_must_appraise_or_measure() does everything in a
  single iteration using a new version of ima_match_policy(). It returns
  IMA_MEASURE, IMA_APPRAISE mask.

  With the use of action mask only one efficient matching function
  is enough. Removed other specific versions of matching functions.

Changelog:
- change 'owner' to 'fowner' to conform to the new LSM conditions posted by
  Roberto Sassu.
- fix calls to ima_log_string()

2fe5d6def1 ima: integrity appraisal extension
IMA currently maintains an integrity measurement list used to assert the
integrity of the running system to a third party. The IMA-appraisal
extension adds local integrity validation and enforcement of the
measurement against a "good" value stored as an extended attribute
'security.ima'. The initial methods for validating 'security.ima' are
hashed based, which provides file data integrity, and digital signature
based, which in addition to providing file data integrity, provides
authenticity.

This patch creates and maintains the 'security.ima' xattr, containing
the file data hash measurement. Protection of the xattr is provided by
EVM, if enabled and configured.

Based on policy, IMA calls evm_verifyxattr() to verify a file's metadata
integrity and, assuming success, compares the file's current hash value
with the one stored as an extended attribute in 'security.ima'.

Changelov v4:
- changed iint cache flags to hex values

Changelog v3:
- change appraisal default for filesystems without xattr support to fail

Changelog v2:
- fix audit msg 'res' value
- removed unused 'ima_appraise=' values

Changelog v1:
- removed unused iint mutex (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- setattr hook must not reset appraised (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- evm_verifyxattr() now differentiates between no 'security.evm' xattr
  (INTEGRITY_NOLABEL) and no EVM 'protected' xattrs included in the
  'security.evm' (INTEGRITY_NOXATTRS).
- replace hash_status with ima_status (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- re-initialize slab element ima_status on free (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- include 'security.ima' in EVM if CONFIG_IMA_APPRAISE, not CONFIG_IMA
- merged half "ima: ima_must_appraise_or_measure API change" (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- removed unnecessary error variable in process_measurement() (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- use ima_inode_post_setattr() stub function, if IMA_APPRAISE not configured
  (moved ima_inode_post_setattr() to ima_appraise.c)
- make sure ima_collect_measurement() can read file

Changelog:
- add 'iint' to evm_verifyxattr() call (Dimitry Kasatkin)
- fix the race condition between chmod, which takes the i_mutex and then
  iint->mutex, and ima_file_free() and process_measurement(), which take
  the locks in the reverse order, by eliminating iint->mutex. (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- cleanup of ima_appraise_measurement() (Dmitry Kasatkin)
- changes as a result of the iint not allocated for all regular files, but
  only for those measured/appraised.
- don't try to appraise new/empty files
- expanded ima_appraisal description in ima/Kconfig
- IMA appraise definitions required even if IMA_APPRAISE not enabled
- add return value to ima_must_appraise() stub
- unconditionally set status = INTEGRITY_PASS *after* testing status,
  not before. (Found by Joe Perches)

fbbb456347 ima: fix filename hint to reflect script interpreter name
When IMA was first upstreamed, the bprm filename and interp were
always the same. Currently, the bprm->filename and bprm->interp
are the same, except for when only bprm->interp contains the
interpreter name. So instead of using the bprm->filename as
the IMA filename hint in the measurement list, we could replace
it with bprm->interp, but this feels too fragil.

The following patch is not much better, but at least there is some
indication that sometimes we're passing the filename and other times
the interpreter name.

1d714057ef evm: remove TCG_TPM dependency
All tristates selected by EVM(boolean) are forced to be builtin, except
in the TCG_TPM(tristate) dependency case. Arnaud Lacombe summarizes the
Kconfig bug as, "So it would seem direct dependency state influence the
state of reverse dependencies.." For a detailed explanation, refer to
Arnaud Lacombe's posting http://lkml.org/lkml/2011/8/23/498.

With the "encrypted-keys: remove trusted-keys dependency" patch, EVM
can now be built without a dependency on TCG_TPM. The trusted-keys
dependency requires trusted-keys to either be builtin or not selected.
This dependency will prevent the boolean/tristate mismatch from

6d38ca01c0 evm: evm_verify_hmac must not return INTEGRITY_UNKNOWN
If EVM is not supported or enabled, evm_verify_hmac() returns
INTEGRITY_UNKNOWN, which ima_appraise_measurement() ignores and sets
the appraisal status based solely on the security.ima verification.

evm_verify_hmac() also returns INTEGRITY_UNKNOWN for other failures, such
as temporary failures like -ENOMEM, resulting in possible attack vectors.
This patch changes the default return code for temporary/unexpected
failures, like -ENOMEM, from INTEGRITY_UNKNOWN to INTEGRITY_FAIL, making
evm_verify_hmac() fail safe.

As a result, failures need to be re-evaluated in order to catch both
temporary errors, such as the -ENOMEM, as well as errors that have been
resolved in fix mode.

6be5cc5246 evm: add support for different security.evm data types
EVM protects a file's security extended attributes(xattrs) against integrity
attacks. The current patchset maintains an HMAC-sha1 value across the security

66dbc325af evm: re-release
EVM protects a file's security extended attributes(xattrs) against integrity
attacks. This patchset provides the framework and an initial method. The
initial method maintains an HMAC-sha1 value across the security extended
attributes, storing the HMAC value as the extended attribute 'security.evm'.
Other methods of validating the integrity of a file's metadata will be posted
separately (eg. EVM-digital-signatures).

While this patchset does authenticate the security xattrs, and
cryptographically binds them to the inode, coming extensions will bind other
directory and inode metadata for more complete protection. To help simplify
the review and upstreaming process, each extension will be posted separately
(eg. IMA-appraisal, IMA-appraisal-directory). For a general overview of the
proposed Linux integrity subsystem, refer to Dave Safford's whitepaper:
http://downloads.sf.net/project/linux-ima/linux-ima/Integrity_overview.pdf.

EVM depends on the Kernel Key Retention System to provide it with a
trusted/encrypted key for the HMAC-sha1 operation. The key is loaded onto the
root's keyring using keyctl. Until EVM receives notification that the key has
been successfully loaded onto the keyring (echo 1 > <securityfs>/evm), EVM can
not create or validate the 'security.evm' xattr, but returns INTEGRITY_UNKNOWN.
Loading the key and signaling EVM should be done as early as possible. Normally
this is done in the initramfs, which has already been measured as part of the
trusted boot. For more information on creating and loading existing
trusted/encrypted keys, refer to Documentation/keys-trusted-encrypted.txt.  A
sample dracut patch, which loads the trusted/encrypted key and enables EVM, is
available from http://linux-ima.sourceforge.net/#EVM.

Based on the LSMs enabled, the set of EVM protected security xattrs is defined
at compile. EVM adds the following three calls to the existing security hooks:
evm_inode_setxattr(), evm_inode_post_setxattr(), and evm_inode_removexattr.  To
initialize and update the 'security.evm' extended attribute, EVM defines three
calls: evm_inode_post_init(), evm_inode_post_setattr() and
evm_inode_post_removexattr() hooks. To verify the integrity of a security
xattr, EVM exports evm_verifyxattr().

1adace9bb0 ima: remove unnecessary call to ima_must_measure
The original ima_must_measure() function based its results on cached
iint information, which required an iint be allocated for all files.
Currently, an iint is allocated only for files in policy. As a result,
for those files in policy, ima_must_measure() is now called twice: once
to determine if the inode is in the measurement policy and, the second
time, to determine if it needs to be measured/re-measured.

The second call to ima_must_measure() unnecessarily checks to see if
the file is in policy. As we already know the file is in policy, this
patch removes the second unnecessary call to ima_must_measure(), removes
the vestige iint parameter, and just checks the iint directly to determine
if the inode has been measured or needs to be measured/re-measured.

867c202654 ima: fix add LSM rule bug
If security_filter_rule_init() doesn't return a rule, then not everything
is as fine as the return code implies.

This bug only occurs when the LSM (eg. SELinux) is disabled at runtime.

Adding an empty LSM rule causes ima_match_rules() to always succeed,
ignoring any remaining rules.

 default IMA TCB policy:
  # PROC_SUPER_MAGIC
  dont_measure fsmagic=0x9fa0
  # SYSFS_MAGIC
  dont_measure fsmagic=0x62656572
  # DEBUGFS_MAGIC
  dont_measure fsmagic=0x64626720
  # TMPFS_MAGIC
  dont_measure fsmagic=0x01021994
  # SECURITYFS_MAGIC
  dont_measure fsmagic=0x73636673

  < LSM specific rule >
  dont_measure obj_type=var_log_t

  measure func=BPRM_CHECK
  measure func=FILE_MMAP mask=MAY_EXEC
  measure func=FILE_CHECK mask=MAY_READ uid=0

Thus without the patch, with the boot parameters 'tcb selinux=0', adding
the above 'dont_measure obj_type=var_log_t' rule to the default IMA TCB
measurement policy, would result in nothing being measured. The patch
prevents the default TCB policy from being replaced.

bade72d607 IMA: fix the ToMToU logic
Current logic looks like this:

        rc = ima_must_measure(NULL, inode, MAY_READ, FILE_CHECK);
        if (rc < 0)
                goto out;

        if (mode & FMODE_WRITE) {
                if (inode->i_readcount)
                        send_tomtou = true;
                goto out;
        }

        if (atomic_read(&inode->i_writecount) > 0)
                send_writers = true;

Lets assume we have a policy which states that all files opened for read
by root must be measured.

Lets assume the file has permissions 777.

Lets assume that root has the given file open for read.

Lets assume that a non-root process opens the file write.

The non-root process will get to ima_counts_get() and will check the
ima_must_measure(). Since it is not supposed to measure it will goto
out.

We should check the i_readcount no matter what since we might be causing
a ToMToU voilation!

This is close to correct, but still not quite perfect. The situation
could have been that root, which was interested in the mesurement opened
and closed the file and another process which is not interested in the
measurement is the one holding the i_readcount ATM. This is just overly
strict on ToMToU violations, which is better than not strict enough...

64c62f06be IMA: drop refcnt from ima_iint_cache since it isn't needed
Since finding a struct ima_iint_cache requires a valid struct inode, and
the struct ima_iint_cache is supposed to have the same lifetime as a
struct inode (technically they die together but don't need to be created

outliving or dieing before the inode. So the refcnt isn't useful. Just

IMA always allocates an integrity structure to hold information about

a178d2027d IMA: move read counter into struct inode
IMA currently allocated an inode integrity structure for every inode in
core. This stucture is about 120 bytes long. Most files however
(especially on a system which doesn't make use of IMA) will never need
any of this space. The problem is that if IMA is enabled we need to
know information about the number of readers and the number of writers
for every inode on the box. At the moment we collect that information
in the per inode iint structure and waste the rest of the space. This
patch moves those counters into the struct inode so we can eventually
stop allocating an IMA integrity structure except when absolutely
needed.

This patch does the minimum needed to move the location of the data.
Further cleanups, especially the location of counter updates, may still
be possible.

b9593d309d IMA: use i_writecount rather than a private counter
IMA tracks the number of struct files which are holding a given inode
readonly and the number which are holding the inode write or r/w. It
needs this information so when a new reader or writer comes in it can
tell if this new file will be able to invalidate results it already made
about existing files.

aka if a task is holding a struct file open RO, IMA measured the file
and recorded those measurements and then a task opens the file RW IMA
needs to note in the logs that the old measurement may not be correct.
It's called a "Time of Measure Time of Use" (ToMToU) issue. The same is
true is a RO file is opened to an inode which has an open writer. We
cannot, with any validity, measure the file in question since it could
be changing.

This patch attempts to use the i_writecount field to track writers. The
i_writecount field actually embeds more information in it's value than
IMA needs but it should work for our purposes and allow us to shrink the
struct inode even more.
