Currently the AB8500 battery management subsystem receives platform
specific information via two different means depending on how the
platform is booted. If DT is not enabled, a reference to a *_bm_data
data structure containing each platform specific attribute is passed
though platform_data. However, if DT is enabled, then platform_data
is empty and the reference is gained though a DT specific probe
function. There are two issues here 1) the same reference is
being collected each time and 2) the DT way doesn't allow any
provisions to select different platform specific attributes, which
kind of defeats the object.

The platform specific battery management configuration data structure
is currently called 'bat' short for 'battery'; however, it contains
information for all components of the battery management group, rather
than information pertaining to the battery itself - there are other
structures for that. So, in keeping with its structure namesake
'abx500_bm_data', we rename it to 'bm' here. Using similar logic,
we're also renaming 'bmdevs_of_probe' to the more device specific
'ab8500_bm_of_probe'.

The CCMuxOffset bit is not kept set. This will force the
columb counter of the AB8500 to use the measure offset
calibration. This should increase the accuracy of the fuel
gauge.

There is no state machine in the AB to step up/down the charger
current to avoid dips and spikes on VBUS and VBAT when charging

The name of ADC channel is configurable in the platform side. This name is
referenced in the IIO consumer driver. To get the IIO channel, specific
name in the platform data is used as an parameter of the
iio_channel_get(). Thus, lp8788_adc_id platform data are replaced with
specific names.

To get the ADC value for the battery voltage and temperature, LP8788 ADC
driver is used. LP8788 charger driver is the consumer of LP8788 ADC
driver. Thus, specific ADC driver name is required on getting the channel
using iio_channel_get().

Remove the device dependent code (ex. cpu_is_xxx()) and settings
from the driver code and instead pass them via the platform
data. This allows a clean separation of the driver code and the platform
code, as required by the move of the platform header files to
include/linux/platform_data.
Note about the smartreflex functional clocks: the smartreflex fclks
are derived from sys_clk and have the same name as the main_clk from
the hwmod entry, in order for the SmartReflex driver to request the
fclk (using clk_get(dev, "fck")).

round including considerable API and behavior cleanups.
* delayed_work combines a timer and a work item. The handling of the
timer part has always been a bit clunky leading to confusing
cancelation API with weird corner-case behaviors. delayed_work is
updated to use new IRQ safe timer and cancelation now works as
expected.
* Another deficiency of delayed_work was lack of the counterpart of
mod_timer() which led to cancel+queue combinations or open-coded
timer+work usages. mod_delayed_work[_on]() are added.
These two delayed_work changes make delayed_work provide interface
and behave like timer which is executed with process context.
* A work item could be executed concurrently on multiple CPUs, which
is rather unintuitive and made flush_work() behavior confusing and
half-broken under certain circumstances. This problem doesn't
exist for non-reentrant workqueues. While non-reentrancy check
isn't free, the overhead is incurred only when a work item bounces
across different CPUs and even in simulated pathological scenario
the overhead isn't too high.
All workqueues are made non-reentrant. This removes the
distinction between flush_[delayed_]work() and

Driver to allow use of the ADC drivers supported by the IIO
subsystem for battery status monitoring. Connecting this
driver to the relevant IIO device requires registration of
the appropriate iio_map structure array by the IIO device
driver (usually from platform data). If specified the driver
will also make use of a gpio to provide interrupt driven
notification that the battery is fully charged.

A previous patch added the ac_draw_failed goto and label to
pda_power_probe(). The goto would be invoked after a failed call to
regulator_get().
However the way ac_draw is used - always after a check for NULL - suggests
that a failed call to regulator_get() was not fatal.
This patch removes the ac_draw_failed goto and label, partly reverting the
previous patch.
This patch also removes the assignment of an error code to ret after a
failed call to regulator_get(), since the error code is now never used.

This patch add support sysfs entry for each charger(regulator).
Charger-manager use one or more chargers for charging battery but some
charger isn't necessary on specific scenario. So, if some charger isn't
needed, can disable specific charger through 'externally_control' entry
while system is on state and confirm the information(name, state) of
charger.
The list of added sysfs entry
- /sys/class/power_supply/battery/chargers/charger.[index]/name
show name of charger(regulator)
- /sys/class/power_supply/battery/chargers/charger.[index]/state
show either enabled or disabled state of charger
- /sys/class/power_supply/battery/chargers/charger.[index]/externally_control
If 'externally_control' of specific charger is 1, Charger-manager cannot
enable regulator for charging when charger cable is attached and charger
must be maintained with disabled state. If 'externally_control' is zero,
Charger-manager usually can control to enable/disable regulator.

This patch check maximum possible duration of charging/discharging.
If whole charging duration exceed 'desc->charging_max_duration_ms', cm
stop charging to prevent overcharge/overheat. And if discharging duration
exceed, charger cable is attached, after full-batt, cm start charging to
maintain fully charged state for battery.

This patch check periodically fully charged state of battery to protect
overcharge and overheat. If battery is fully charged, stop charging and
check droped voltage with 'fullbatt_vchkdrop_ms' period. When voltage of
battery is more droped than 'fullbatt_vchkdrop_uV' voltage,
charger-manager will restart charging for battery.

Enum lp8727_chg_state can be removed because only one charger status is
used - EOC(End Of Charge).

For better understanding, use specific function and definitions rather
than magic numbers. New enum type for die temperature is matched with hex
codes. Specific temperature names are better than 0x1, 0x2 and 0x3.
And lp8727_is_high_temperature() function has better readability than
comparing raw register values.

For better understanding, function name is changed. (lp8727_intr_config()
is replaced with lp8727_setup_irq().)
The private IRQ number is set when the IRQ is allocated successfully. This
data is used for releasing the IRQ on unloading the driver. Even the IRQ
number is not defined, the driver should be operated. In this case, just
return as 0.
In additional function lp8727_release_irq(), the workqueue is canceled and
the allocated IRQ is released.

LP8727 has two IRQ threads. One is the I2C HW IRQ pin, the other is for
delayed interrupt processing. But this delayed processing can be handled
without additional single thread by using schedule_delayed_work() with
jiffies time value.

Debounce time is configurable in the platform side. If it is not defined,
the default value is 270ms.
Platform data is msec unit, and this time is converted to jiffies
internally. The workqueue uses this jiffies time in the interrupt
handling. So debounce_jiffies is added in the private data.

LP8727 platform data is optional, so the driver should work even the
platform data is NULL.
To check the platform data, charging parameter data should be changed to
the pointer type.
Fix NULL point access problem when getting the battery properties. When
the data is NULL, just return as invalid value.

If the lp8727_register_psy() gets failed, registered interrupt handler
should be freed, but this is not complete solution. It has still problem.
Assume that the IRQ occurs while unregistering power supply devices. Then
the ISR will access to freed IRQ.
From Anton's opinion, it can be resolved if re-ordering the call sequence.
Register power supplies first, then create interrupt handler. Then no need
to free the IRQ in _probe(). Additionally goto statements can be removed
because those can be replaced with return statements.
The _remove() should be changed the sequence - in reverse order of
_probe()

There are charger and battery measurement feature for 88pm860x PMIC.
For charger, it can support pre-charge with small current when battery is
nearly exausted and then changed into fast-charge with CC&CV mode.
For battery monitor, it can support battery measurement such as
vbat,vsys,vchg and ibat etc,it can aslo accumulating the Coulomb value
charged or discharged from battery based on Conlomb Counter, we use it
to estimate battery capacity.

TI LP8788 PMU supports regulators, battery charger, RTC, ADC, backlight
driver and current sinks.
This patch supports the charger operations including the charger
interrupt handling.
The LP8788 charger driver provides configurable platform data. The
charger platform data includes ADC input ID, maximum battery voltage,
charging parameters and etc.
The ADC input is used for getting the battery voltage and temperature.
Charging parameters are used for updating the charger operations such
like setting charging current and setting End-of-charge conditions.
When the charging interrupt occurs, power supply uevents are generated
in order to update the user-space information. For platform specific
charger action, the charger_event() function can be used in the
platform side.

We should decrement "i" before doing the free_irq(). If we call this
because request_threaded_irq() failed then we don't want to free the
thing which failed. Or in the case where we get here because
power_supply_register() failed then the original codes does a read past

Turns out this driver doesn't actually try talking to the device at
probe time, so if it's incorrectly configured in the device tree or
platform data (or if the battery has been removed from the system),
then probe will succeed and every access will sit there and time out.
The end result is a possibly laggy system that thinks it has a battery
but can never read status, which isn't very useful.
Instead, just read any register (I chose status) at probe, and if that
fails, don't register the device.

When I reboot my iPAQ hx4700 in its cradle, the battery will not begin
to charge even though the AC supply is connected. Charging will start
only after the PDA power driver is tickled by some other power event,
such as reseating the iPAQ in its cradle or connecting the USB cable.
The problem lies in pda_power_probe(), where ac_draw is used by the call
to update_charger() before being set by the call to regulator_get().
Moving the regulator_get() call to before the update_charger() call
fixes the problem.

There are different types of chargers avalibale like AC, Solar, USB,
etc.. Even in USB we have different types SDP/DCP/CDP/ACA and all these
chargers have different o/p ratings. For example SDP supports only 500mA
of charge current whereas AC charger can support upto 8A or more.
Similarly batteries also come with charge current and voltage ratings
and these ratings vary depending on its capacity and the technology
used.
This patch adds two new power supply properties
CONSTANT_CHARGE_CURRENT_MAX and CONSTANT_CHARGE_CURRENT_MAX.

It is possible that users can use non-standard chargers or use invalid
batteries especially with mobile devices.
This patch adds a new power supply property called 'AUTHENTIC' to
indicate this to the user(user space).

flush[_delayed]_work_sync() are now spurious. Mark them deprecated
and convert all users to flush[_delayed]_work().
If you're cc'd and wondering what's going on: Now all workqueues are
non-reentrant and the regular flushes guarantee that the work item is
not pending or running on any CPU on return, so there's no reason to
use the sync flushes at all and they're going away.
This patch doesn't make any functional difference.

Convert delayed_work users doing cancel_delayed_work() followed by
queue_delayed_work() to mod_delayed_work().
Most conversions are straight-forward. Ones worth mentioning are,
* drivers/edac/edac_mc.c: edac_mc_workq_setup() converted to always
use mod_delayed_work() and cancel loop in
edac_mc_reset_delay_period() is dropped.
* drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.c: No need to remember whether
watchdog is active or not. @fan_watchdog_active and related code
dropped.
* drivers/power/charger-manager.c: Seemingly a lot of
delayed_work_pending() abuse going on here.
[delayed_]work_pending() are unsynchronized and racy when used like
this. I converted one instance in fullbatt_handler(). Please
conver the rest so that it invokes workqueue APIs for the intended
target state rather than trying to game work item pending state
transitions. e.g. if timer should be modified - call
mod_delayed_work(), canceled - call cancel_delayed_work[_sync]().
* drivers/thermal/thermal_sys.c: thermal_zone_device_set_polling()
simplified. Note that round_jiffies() calls in this function are
meaningless. round_jiffies() work on absolute jiffies not delta
delay used by delayed_work.
v2: Tomi pointed out that __cancel_delayed_work() users can't be
safely converted to mod_delayed_work(). They could be calling it
from irq context and if that happens while delayed_work_timer_fn()
is running, it could deadlock. __cancel_delayed_work() users are
dropped.

updates, a few printk cleanups that weren't needed for 3.5, but are good to

With the changes in the random tree, IRQF_SAMPLE_RANDOM is now a
no-op; interrupt randomness is now collected unconditionally in a very
low-overhead fashion; see commit 775f4b297b. The IRQF_SAMPLE_RANDOM
flag was scheduled to be removed in 2009 on the
feature-removal-schedule, so this patch is preparation for the final
removal of this flag.

upowerd wants to compute the energy in the battery by looking at this
property. If it's not present then it falls back on using the reported
voltage of the battery at time upowerd loads. That's close but also
means that every time you boot you get a slightly different energy
capacity.
Adding the VOLTAGE_MAX_DESIGN property allows upowerd to compute the
same energy every time.

Minimum and maximum alerts on power supply properties will help or allow
the user space to "proactively" create policies like connect/disconnect
charger or stop/start the user apps based on capacity or temperature
parameters.
These parameters can be used to avoid unnecessary polling from user space
and even from kernel space if the underlying HW can support INT triggers
(ex: max17042/47).

usb_get_phy will return -ENODEV if it's not able to find the phy. Hence
fixed all the callers of usb_get_phy to check for this error condition
instead of relying on a non-zero value as success condition.

Add a linked list for keeping multiple PHY instances with different
types so that we can have separate USB2 and USB3 PHYs on one single
board. _get_phy_ has been changed so that the controller gets
the transceiver by type. _remove_phy_ has been added to let the phy
be removed from the phy list.

power_supply_changed() events are triggerd based on the return value
of a get_property() call. However the property TECHNOLOGY is
hard-coded to LION in this driver, thus always succeeds.
So, with the battery removed, this triggers a false battery present
uevent. This uevent triggers a new query via power_supply_uevent()
which again starts to query all known properties and thus leads to
an infinite loop of battery present/not-present uevents.
This patch skips the battery presence detection for the hard-coded
property TECHNOLOGY.

keep it running.

This allows a voltage and current (bb_uvolts and bb_uamps) to be
specified in the platform_data, and charging of the backup battery will
be enabled with those specification.
As it is not possible to monitor the backup battery at all there is no
new device created to represent it.

Constant Charge Current(CC) is charging parameter which limit the
maximum current which can be pumped into the battery during charge cycle.
Constant Charge Voltage(CV) is also charging parameter which limit the
maximum voltage that battery can reach during charge cycle.
It is very common practice that at low or high temperatures we
do not charge the batteries upto it's fullest charge voltage
to avoid battery and user safety issues.
These sysfs properties will be useful for debug and to implement
certain user space policies like "Charging limited due to OverTemp".

Battery and charger contribute to Thermals in most of the embedded
devices. So, it makes sense to identify them as Thermal zones in a
particular platform.
This patch registers a thermal zone if the power supply is reporting
a temperature property. The thermal zone will be used by platform's
thermal management solution.

The 'mutex' in struct w1_master is use for two very different
purposes.
Firstly it protects various data structures such as the list of all
slaves.
Secondly it protects the w1 buss against concurrent accesses.
This can lead to deadlocks when the ->probe code called while adding a
slave needs to talk on the bus, as is the case for power_supply
devices.
ds2780 and ds2781 drivers contain a work around to track which
process hold the lock simply to avoid this deadlock. bq27000 doesn't
have that work around and so deadlocks.
There are other possible deadlocks involving sysfs.
When removing a device the sysfs s_active lock is held, so the lock
that protects the slave list must take precedence over s_active.
However when access power_supply attributes via sysfs, the s_active
lock must take precedence over the lock that protects accesses to
the bus.
So to avoid deadlocks between w1 slaves and sysfs, these must be
two separate locks. Making them separate means that the work around
in ds2780 and ds2781 can be removed.
So this patch:
- adds a new mutex: "bus_mutex" which serialises access to the bus.
- takes in mutex in w1_search and ds1wm_search while they access
the bus for searching. The mutex is dropped before calling the
callback which adds the slave.
- changes all slaves to use bus_mutex instead of mutex to
protect access to the bus
- removes w1_ds2790_io_nolock and w1_ds2781_io_nolock, and the
related code from drivers/power/ds278[01]_battery.c which
calls them.

After a clean-up of the interfaces the OMAP Smartreflex IP driver is now a
generic driver. Move it to drivers/power/avs/.

The modern idiom is to use irq_domain to allocate interrupts. This is
useful partly to allow further infrastructure to be based on the domains
and partly because it makes it much easier to allocate virtual interrupts
to devices as we don't need to allocate a contiguous range of interrupt
numbers.
Convert the wm831x driver over to this infrastructure, using a legacy
IRQ mapping if an irq_base is specified in platform data and otherwise
using a linear mapping, always registering the interrupts even if they
won't ever be used. Only boards which need to use the GPIOs as
interrupts should need to use an irq_base.
This means that we can't use the MFD irq_base management since the
unless we're using an explicit irq_base from platform data we can't rely
on a linear mapping of interrupts. Instead we need to map things via
the irq_domain - provide a conveniencem function wm831x_irq() to save a
small amount of typing when doing so. Looking at this I couldn't clearly
see anything the MFD core could do to make this nicer.
Since we're not supporting device tree yet there's no meaningful
advantage if we don't do this conversion in one, the fact that the
interrupt resources are used for repeated IP blocks makes accessor
functions for the irq_domain more trouble to do than they're worth.

CURRENT_NOW and VOLTAGE_NOW should be instantaneous readings
from power supply(ex: battery).
smb347 charger driver reports charge voltage for VOLTAGE_NOW
and charge current for CURRENT_NOW attributes which are not
instantaneous readings.
This patch removes the battery VOLTAGE_NOW and CURRENT_NOW
properties from the driver and also removes hw_to_current()
which is not required anymore.

max17047 is improved version of max17042 chip. It has few HW bug
fixes with minor changes in register set.
max17050 is same as max17047 chip except its silicon packging. So from
driver's point of view there is no difference btw max1047 and max1050.
This patch adds the support to dynamically detect the chip type and
adds steps to initialize the max17047 chip.

Currently, the capacity exported by this driver refers to reg 0x0e,
which is the absolute state of charge which according to SBS
refers to the design capacity/ energy of the battery. It can be
> 100 % and drops below 100 % for a fully charged battery with
the battery aging.
This is not what the user exspects of a remaining capacity
indication between 0 and 100 % with 100 % referring to
a fully charged battery. This is provided by SBS reg 0x0d,
which is the relative state of charge referring to the
full charge capacity.

By using cm_notify_event function, charger driver can report several
charger events (e.g. battery full and external power in/out, etc) to
Charger-Manager. Charger-Manager can properly and immediately control
chargers by the reported event.

Charger-Manager needs to check battery health in normal state
as well as suspend-to-RAM state. When the battery is fully charged,
Charger-Manager needs to determine when the chargers restart charging.
This patch allows Charger-Manager to monitor battery health in normal
state and handle operation for chargers after battery is fully charged.

The smb347-charger driver does a lot of read-modify-write to the device
registers. Instead of open-coding everything we can take advantage of
regmap API which provides nice functions to do this kind of things.
In addition there is no need for custom debugfs file for dumping
registers as this is already provided by the regmap API.

There is a potential problem if we call smb347_irq_enable() from
smb347_irq_init() because smb347_irq_enable() makes the device registers
read-only once it returns and smb347_irq_init() expects them to still be
read-write. Currently no harm happens because it is the last call we make
in smb347_irq_init().
Anyway a better place for enabling IRQs is at the end of probe function
and this is also symmetric to call smb347_irq_disable() which is done at
the beginning of remove function.

This adds a new sysfs file called 'voltage_ocv' which gives the
Open Circuit Voltage of the battery.
This property can be used for platform shutdown policies and
can be useful for initial capacity estimations.

This patch adds suspend/resume methods to the driver.
In suspend method irq line is disabled to avoid i2c
read/write errors from the interrupt handler as the
i2c bus itself could be in suspend state.
In resume function irq line will be re-enabled.

There are a couple issues here caused by confusion between sizeof()
and ARRAY_SIZE(). "table_size" should be the number of elements, but we
should allocate it with kcalloc() so that we allocate the correct number
of bytes.
In max17042_init_model() we don't allocate enough space so we go past
the end of the array in max17042_read_model_data() and
max17042_model_data_compare().
In max17042_verify_model_lock() we allocate the right amount of space
but we call max17042_read_model_data() with the wrong number of elements
and also in the for loop we go past the end of the array.

Max17042 driver has dummy hardIRQ function which
does nothing but waking the threaded handler.
This patch removes the hardIRQ function and also
modifies the interrupt type to falling edge. While
we are there, change the macros to comply with the
Data sheet.

CHARGE_FULL should represent the full capacity of the battery in uAh.
The 0x10 (FullCAP) register shows the compensated full capacity in
mAh * 2; e.g., reg(0x10) = 0xBB8 means that it is 1500mAh.

This driver is responsible for provide battery parameters to user space via
sysfs by registers to power supply class. It uses fuel gauge and gpadc driver

This driver is responsible for detecting the ac/usb plugin and also includes
function to enable ac/usb charging and re-kick the watchdog.
It registers with the power supply class and provides information to the user
space. The information include status of ac/usb charger device.
This information in turn will be used by the abx500 charging algorithm driver

The SOC register (0dh) reports the state of charge before empty
compensation adjustments are applied. The max value reported by this
register will decrease as the battery ages.
Use the RepSOC register (06h) to report the capacity of the
battery. RepSOC contains a filtered version of the battery capacity
after empty compensation adjustments have been applied.

Add power on reset (POR) init procedure defined by the maxim
appnote. Using this procedure ensures that the part is
configured/initialized correctly at POR and improves early accuracy of
the fuel gauge and informs the fuel gauge with the battery
characterization parameters. The battery characterization parameters
come from the maxim characterization procedure.

For files that are actively using linux/device.h, make sure
that they call it out. This will allow us to clean up some
of the implicit uses of linux/device.h within include/*
without introducing build regressions.
Yes, this was created by "cheating" -- i.e. the headers were
cleaned up, and then the fallout was found and fixed, and then
the two commits were reordered. This ensures we don't introduce
build regressions into the git history.

Here we have a big rework done by Heikki Krogerus (thanks) which
splits OTG functionality away from transceivers.
We have known for quite a long time that struct otg_transceiver was
a bad name for the structure, considering transceiver is far from
being OTG-specific (see 4e67185).
Different tree maintainers picked up independently generated
trivial compile fixes based on linux-next testing, resulting
in some cases where a file would have got more than one addition
of module.h once everything was all merged together.
Delete any duplicates so includecheck isn't complaining about
anything related to module.h/export.h changes.

modalias is prefixed with "platform:".
Current code has the id_table, thus add MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE will

When reading flags, bq27x00_read() argument is inverted and causes
reads 2 of bytes for bq27200 and 1 byte for bq27500, while their register
sizes are 1 and 2 bytes respectively. This causes bq27500 upper flag
bits always to be returned as 0, causing full charge state to never be
reported correctly, so fix it.

module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In
fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy
trick.
It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version
it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version.

There are some problems with MFD part of this driver, so the
driver fails to build:

The function is not exported to modules, plus we do want to catch anyone
who tries to create complex hierarchy (in that case we'd need to change
'powers' symlink to a directory, probably under a different name to not
break ABI).
This patch fixes the following build error:

Some sources for adc battery information provide only inaccurate results
where the read value differs from the real value with positive and negative
offsets. For such sources it can be more accurate to collect two or more
value sample and use the average of all collected values.
This patch adds pdata options volt_samples, current_samples and
backup_volt_samples to specifiy the number of samples to collect,
reads the specified number of samples and calculates the average of those.
For unset sample-number-values a default of 1 is assumed.

If no power class device is found in power_supply_is_system_supplied(),
the function currently returns 0, which basically means that the system
is supposed to be running on battery. In practice, mobile devices tend
to always implement at least one power class device and more often two
(battery and AC adapter). Systems with no registered power class
devices are more likely to be desktop systems, where the system is
always powered by mains.
So, change the default return value of
power_supply_is_system_supplied() from 0 (running on battery) to 1
(running on mains.)

The power supply name used to be fixed as "battery". This change allows
for multiple batteries by generating the name rather than using a fixed
value.

This driver for the bq20z75 implemented the register spec defined
by the SBS standard. As this is not unique to this the TI part this
was originally written for, we can generalize this driver to
show its support for any SBS compliant battery.

DEFINE_MUTEX() rather than explicitly calling mutex_init().
This patch also removes an unused bat_lock mutex.

With default prop value, supply type property can be displayed
