080fe0b790 perf/x86/amd: Make HW_CACHE_REFERENCES and HW_CACHE_MISSES measure L2
While the Intel PMU monitors the LLC when perf enables the
HW_CACHE_REFERENCES and HW_CACHE_MISSES events, these events monitor
L1 instruction cache fetches (0x0080) and instruction cache misses
(0x0081) on the AMD PMU.

This is extremely confusing when monitoring the same workload across
Intel and AMD machines, since parameters like,

  $ perf stat -e cache-references,cache-misses

measure completely different things.

Instead, make the AMD PMU measure instruction/data cache and TLB fill
requests to the L2 and instruction/data cache and TLB misses in the L2
when HW_CACHE_REFERENCES and HW_CACHE_MISSES are enabled,
respectively. That way the events measure unified caches on both
platforms.

1155bafcb7 perf/x86/intel/pt: Do validate the size of a kernel address filter
Right now, the kernel address filters in PT are prone to integer overflow
that may happen in adding filter's size to its offset to obtain the end
of the range. Such an overflow would also throw a #GP in the PT event
configuration path.

Fix this by explicitly validating the result of this calculation.

ddfdad991e perf/x86/intel/pt: Fix kernel address filter's offset validation
The kernel_ip() filter is used mostly by the DS/LBR code to look at the
branch addresses, but Intel PT also uses it to validate the address
filter offsets for kernel addresses, for which it is not sufficient:
supplying something in bits 64:48 that's not a sign extension of the lower
address bits (like 0xf00d000000000000) throws a #GP.

This patch adds address validation for the user supplied kernel filters.

cb76c93982 x86/dumpstack: Add get_stack_info() interface
valid_stack_ptr() is buggy: it assumes that all stacks are of size
THREAD_SIZE, which is not true for exception stacks. So the
walk_stack() callbacks will need to know the location of the beginning
of the stack as well as the end.

Another issue is that in general the various features of a stack (type,
size, next stack pointer, description string) are scattered around in
various places throughout the stack dump code.

Encapsulate all that information in a single place with a new stack_info
struct and a get_stack_info() interface.

cd34cd97b7 perf/x86/intel/uncore: Add Skylake server uncore support
This patch implements the uncore monitoring driver for Skylake server.
The uncore subsystem in Skylake server is similar to previous
server. There are some differences in config register encoding and pci
device IDs. Besides, Skylake introduces many new boxes to reflect the
MESH architecture changes.

The control registers for IIO and UPI have been extended to 64 bit. This
patch also introduces event_mask_ext to handle the high 32 bit mask.

The CHA box number could vary for different machines. This patch gets
the CHA box number by counting the CHA register space during
initialization at runtime.

8ef9b8455a perf/x86/intel: Fix PEBSv3 record drain
Alexander hit the WARN_ON_ONCE(!event) on his Skylake while running
the perf fuzzer.

This means the PEBSv3 record included a status bit for an inactive
event, something that _should_ not happen.

Move the code that filters the status bits against our known PEBS
events up a spot to guarantee we only deal with events we know about.

Further add "continue" statements to the WARN_ON_ONCE()s such that
we'll not die nor generate silly events in case we ever do hit them
again.

a9a94401c2 perf/x86/intel/bts: Fix confused ordering of PMU callbacks
The intel_bts driver is using a CPU-local 'started' variable to order
callbacks and PMIs and make sure that AUX transactions don't get messed
up. However, the ordering rules in regard to this variable is a complete
mess, which recently resulted in perf_fuzzer-triggered warnings and
panics.

The general ordering rule that is patch is enforcing is that this
cpu-local variable be set only when the cpu-local AUX transaction is
active; consequently, this variable is to be checked before the AUX
related bits can be touched.

7d762e49c2 perf/x86/amd/uncore: Prevent use after free
The resent conversion of the cpu hotplug support in the uncore driver
introduced a regression due to the way the callbacks are invoked at
initialization time.

The old code called the prepare/starting/online function on each online cpu
as a block. The new code registers the hotplug callbacks in the core for
each state. The core invokes the callbacks at each registration on all
online cpus.

The code implicitely relied on the prepare/starting/online callbacks being
called as combo on a particular cpu, which was not obvious and completely
undocumented.

The resulting subtle wreckage happens due to the way how the uncore code
manages shared data structures for cpus which share an uncore resource in
hardware. The sharing is determined in the cpu starting callback, but the
prepare callback allocates per cpu data for the upcoming cpu because
potential sharing is unknown at this point. If the starting callback finds
a online cpu which shares the hardware resource it takes a refcount on the
percpu data of that cpu and puts the own data structure into a
'free_at_online' pointer of that shared data structure. The online callback
frees that.

With the old model this worked because in a starting callback only one non
unused structure (the one of the starting cpu) was available. The new code
allocates the data structures for all cpus when the prepare callback is
registered.

Now the starting function iterates through all online cpus and looks for a
data structure (skipping its own) which has a matching hardware id. The id
member of the data structure is initialized to 0, but the hardware id can
be 0 as well. The resulting wreckage is:

CPU0 finds a matching id on CPU1, takes a refcount on CPU1 data and puts
its own data structure into CPU1s data structure to be freed.

CPU1 skips CPU0 because the data structure is its allegedly unsued own.
It finds a matching id on CPU2, takes a refcount on CPU1 data and puts
its own data structure into CPU2s data structure to be freed.

  ....

Now the online callbacks are invoked.

CPU0 has a pointer to CPU1s data and frees the original CPU0 data. So
  far so good.

CPU1 has a pointer to CPU2s data and frees the original CPU1 data, which
is still referenced by CPU0 ---> Booom

So there are two issues to be solved here:

1) The id field must be initialized at allocation time to a value which
cannot be a valid hardware id, i.e. -1

This prevents the above scenario, but now CPU1 and CPU2 both stick their
own data structure into the free_at_online pointer of CPU0. So we leak
   CPU1s data structure.

2) Fix the memory leak described in #1

Instead of having a single pointer, use a hlist to enqueue the
superflous data structures which are then freed by the first cpu
   invoking the online callback.

Ideally we should know the sharing _before_ invoking the prepare callback,
but that's way beyond the scope of this bug fix.

68ce4a0dea perf/x86/intel/uncore: Remove hard-coded implementation for Node ID mapping location
The method to build PCI bus to socket mapping is similar among

95f3be7984 perf/x86/intel/uncore: Add enable_box for client MSR uncore
There are bug reports about miscounting uncore counters on some
client machines like Sandybridge, Broadwell and Skylake. It is
very likely to be observed on idle systems.

This issue is caused by a hardware issue. PERF_GLOBAL_CTL could be
cleared after Package C7, and nothing will be count.
The related errata (HSD 158) could be found in:

  www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/specification-updates/4th-gen-core-family-desktop-specification-update.pdf

This patch tries to work around this issue by re-enabling PERF_GLOBAL_CTL
in ->enable_box(). The workaround does not cover all cases. It helps for new
events after returning from C7. But it cannot prevent C7, it will still
miscount if a counter is already active.

There is no drawback in leaving it enabled, so it does not need
disable_box() here.

This issue was found by comparing the code with the document. Although
there is no bug report from users yet, accessing non-existent counters

even crashes.

This patch makes them consistent with the uncore document.

3e2c1a67d6 perf/x86/intel: Clean up LBR state tracking
The lbr_context logic confused me; it appears to me to try and do the
same thing the pmu::sched_task() callback does now, but limited to
per-task events.

So rip it out. Afaict this should also improve performance, because I
think the current code can end up doing lbr_reset() twice, once from
the pmu::add() and then again from pmu::sched_task(), and MSR writes
(all 3*16 of them) are expensive!!

While thinking through the cases that need the reset it occured to me
the first install of an event in an active context needs to reset the
LBR (who knows what crap is in there), but detecting this case is
somewhat hard.

68f7082ffb perf/x86: Ensure perf_sched_cb_{inc,dec}() is only called from pmu::{add,del}()
Currently perf_sched_cb_{inc,dec}() are called from
pmu::{start,stop}(), which has the problem that this can happen from
NMI context, this is making it hard to optimize perf_pmu_sched_task().

Furthermore, we really only need this accounting on pmu::{add,del}(),
so doing it from pmu::{start,stop}() is doing more work than we really
need.

Introduce x86_pmu::{add,del}() and wire up the LBR and PEBS.

09e61b4f78 perf/x86/intel: Rework the large PEBS setup code
In order to allow optimizing perf_pmu_sched_task() we must ensure
perf_sched_cb_{inc,dec}() are no longer called from NMI context; this
means that pmu::{start,stop}() can no longer use them.

Prepare for this by reworking the whole large PEBS setup code.

The current code relied on the cpuc->pebs_enabled state, however since
that reflects the current active state as per pmu::{start,stop}() we
can no longer rely on this.

Introduce two counters: cpuc->n_pebs and cpuc->n_large_pebs which
count the total number of PEBS events and the number of PEBS events
that have FREERUNNING set, resp.. With this we can tell if the current
setup requires a single record interrupt threshold or can use a larger
buffer.

This also improves the code in that it re-enables the large threshold
once the PEBS event that required single record gets removed.

It is known that PMU isn't working in some virtualized environments.

Modify the message issued in that case to mention why hardware PMU
isn't usable instead of reporting it to be broken.

As a side effect this will correct a little bug in the error message:
The error message was meant to be either of level err or info
depending on the environment (native or virtualized). As the level is
taken from the format string and not the printed string, specifying
it via %s and a conditional argument didn't work the way intended.

Linus Torvalds
7e4dc77b28 Merge branch 'perf-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull perf updates from Ingo Molnar:
"With over 300 commits it's been a busy cycle - with most of the work
concentrated on the tooling side (as it should).

The main kernel side enhancements were:

   - Add per event callchain limit: Recently we introduced a sysctl to
tune the max-stack for all events for which callchains were
     requested:

       $ sysctl kernel.perf_event_max_stack
       kernel.perf_event_max_stack = 127

Now this patch introduces a way to configure this per event, i.e.
     this becomes possible:

       $ perf record -e sched:*/max-stack=2/ -e block:*/max-stack=10/ -a

allowing finer tuning of how much buffer space callchains use.

This uses an u16 from the reserved space at the end, leaving
     another u16 for future use.

There has been interest in even finer tuning, namely to control the
max stack for kernel and userspace callchains separately. Further
discussion is needed, we may for instance use the remaining u16 for
that and when it is present, assume that the sample_max_stack
introduced in this patch applies for the kernel, and the u16 left
is used for limiting the userspace callchain (Arnaldo Carvalho de
     Melo)

   - Optimize AUX event (hardware assisted side-band event) delivery
     (Kan Liang)

   - Rework Intel family name macro usage (this is partially x86 arch
     work) (Dave Hansen)

   - Refine and fix Intel LBR support (David Carrillo-Cisneros)

   - Add support for Intel 'TopDown' events (Andi Kleen)

   - Intel uncore PMU driver fixes and enhancements (Kan Liang)

   - ... other misc changes.

Here's an incomplete list of the tooling enhancements (but there's
much more, see the shortlog and the git log for details):

   - Support cross unwinding, i.e. collecting '--call-graph dwarf'
perf.data files in one machine and then doing analysis in another
machine of a different hardware architecture. This enables, for
     instance, to do:

       $ perf record -a --call-graph dwarf

on a x86-32 or aarch64 system and then do 'perf report' on it on a
     x86_64 workstation (He Kuang)

   - Allow reading from a backward ring buffer (one setup via
     sys_perf_event_open() with perf_event_attr.write_backward = 1)
     (Wang Nan)

   - Finish merging initial SDT (Statically Defined Traces) support, see
cset comments for details about how it all works (Masami Hiramatsu)

   - Support attaching eBPF programs to tracepoints (Wang Nan)

   - Add demangling of symbols in programs written in the Rust language
     (David Tolnay)

   - Add support for tracepoints in the python binding, including an
example, that sets up and parses sched:sched_switch events,
     tools/perf/python/tracepoint.py (Jiri Olsa)

   - Introduce --stdio-color to set up the color output mode selection
in 'annotate' and 'report', allowing emit color escape sequences
when redirecting the output of these tools (Arnaldo Carvalho de
     Melo)

   - Add 'callindent' option to 'perf script -F', to indent the Intel PT
call stack, making this output more ftrace-like (Adrian Hunter,
     Andi Kleen)

   - Allow dumping the object files generated by llvm when processing
     eBPF scriptlet events (Wang Nan)

   - Add stackcollapse.py script to help generating flame graphs (Paolo
     Bonzini)

   - Add --ldlat option to 'perf mem' to specify load latency for loads

7e3f977edd perf, events: add non-linear data support for raw records
This patch adds support for non-linear data on raw records. It
extends raw records to have one or multiple fragments that will
be written linearly into the ring slot, where each fragment can
optionally have a custom callback handler to walk and extract
complex, possibly non-linear data.

If a callback handler is provided for a fragment, then the new
__output_custom() will be used instead of __output_copy() for
the perf_output_sample() part. perf_prepare_sample() does all
the size calculation only once, so perf_output_sample() doesn't
need to redo the same work anymore, meaning real_size and padding
will be cached in the raw record. The raw record becomes 32 bytes
in size without holes; to not increase it further and to avoid
doing unnecessary recalculations in fast-path, we can reuse
next pointer of the last fragment, idea here is borrowed from
ZERO_OR_NULL_PTR(), which should keep the perf_output_sample()
path for PERF_SAMPLE_RAW minimal.

This facility is needed for BPF's event output helper as a first
user that will, in a follow-up, add an additional perf_raw_frag
to its perf_raw_record in order to be able to more efficiently
dump skb context after a linear head meta data related to it.
skbs can be non-linear and thus need a custom output function to
dump buffers. Currently, the skb data needs to be copied twice;
with the help of __output_custom() this work only needs to be
done once. Future users could be things like XDP/BPF programs
that work on different context though and would thus also have
a different callback function.

The few users of raw records are adapted to initialize their frag
data from the raw record itself, no change in behavior for them.
The code is based upon a PoC diff provided by Peter Zijlstra [1].

eb008eb6f8 x86: Audit and remove any remaining unnecessary uses of module.h
Historically a lot of these existed because we did not have
a distinction between what was modular code and what was providing
support to modules via EXPORT_SYMBOL and friends. That changed
when we forked out support for the latter into the export.h file.

This means we should be able to reduce the usage of module.h
in code that is obj-y Makefile or bool Kconfig. In the case of
some of these which are modular, we can extend that to also include
files that are building basic support functionality but not related
to loading or registering the final module; such files also have
no need whatsoever for module.h

The advantage in removing such instances is that module.h itself
sources about 15 other headers; adding significantly to what we feed
cpp, and it can obscure what headers we are effectively using.

Since module.h was the source for init.h (for __init) and for
export.h (for EXPORT_SYMBOL) we consider each instance for the
presence of either and replace as needed.

In the case of crypto/glue_helper.c we delete a redundant instance
of MODULE_LICENSE in order to delete module.h -- the license info
is already present at the top of the file.

The uncore change warrants a mention too; it is uncore.c that uses
module.h and not uncore.h; hence the relocation done there.

9010ae4a8d perf/x86/intel: Update event constraints when HT is off
This patch updates the event constraints for non-PEBS mode for
Intel Broadwell and Skylake processors. When HT is off, each
CPU gets 8 generic counters. However, not all events can be
programmed on any of the 8 counters. This patch adds the
constraints for the MEM_* events which can only be measured on the
bottom 4 counters. The constraints are also valid when HT is off
because, then, there are only 4 generic counters and they are the
bottom counters.

Add quirk for context switch to save/restore the value of

19fc9ddd61 perf/x86/intel: Fix MSR_LAST_BRANCH_FROM_x bug when no TSX
Intel's SDM states that bits 61:62 in MSR_LAST_BRANCH_FROM_x are the
TSX flags for formats with LBR_TSX flags (i.e. LBR_FORMAT_EIP_EFLAGS2).

However, when the CPU has TSX support deactivated, bits 61:62 actually
behave as follows:

  - For wrmsr(), bits 61:62 are considered part of the sign extension.
  - When capturing branches, the LBR hw will always clear bits 61:62.
    regardless of the sign extension.

Therefore, if:

  1) LBR has TSX format.
  2) CPU has no TSX support enabled.

... then any value passed to wrmsr() must be sign extended to 63 bits
and any value from rdmsr() must be converted to have a sign extension
of 61 bits, ignoring the values at TSX flags.

This bug was masked by the work-around to the Intel's CPU bug:
BJ94. "LBR May Contain Incorrect Information When Using FREEZE_LBRS_ON_PMI"
in Document Number: 324643-037US.

The aforementioned work-around uses hw flags to filter out all kernel
branches, limiting LBR callstack to user level execution only.

Since user addresses are not sign extended, they do not trigger the wrmsr()
bug in MSR_LAST_BRANCH_FROM_x when saved/restored at context switch.

To verify the hw bug:

  $ perf record -b -e cycles sleep 1
  $ rdmsr -p 0 0x680
  0x1fffffffb0b9b0cc
  $ wrmsr -p 0 0x680 0x1fffffffb0b9b0cc
  write(): Input/output error

The quirk for LBR_FROM_ MSRs is required before calls to wrmsrl() and
after rdmsrl().

This patch introduces it for wrmsrl()'s done for testing LBR support.

Future patch in series adds the quirk for context switch, that would
be required if LBR callstack is to be enabled for ring 0.

a39fcae7a8 perf/x86/intel: Add topdown events to Intel Core
Add declarations for the events needed for topdown to the
Intel big core CPUs starting with Sandy Bridge. We need
to report different values if HyperThreading is on or off.

The only thing this patch does is to export some events
in sysfs.

topdown level 1 uses a set of abstracted metrics which
are generic to out of order CPU cores (although some
CPUs may not implement all of them):

topdown-total-slots Available slots in the pipeline
topdown-slots-issued Slots issued into the pipeline
topdown-slots-retired Slots successfully retired
topdown-fetch-bubbles Pipeline gaps in the frontend
topdown-recovery-bubbles Pipeline gaps during recovery
			  from misspeculation

A slot is a single operation in the CPU pipe line.

These metrics then allow to compute four useful metrics:
FrontendBound, BackendBound, Retiring, BadSpeculation.

The formulas to compute the metrics are generic, they
only change based on the availability on the abstracted
input values.

The kernel declares the events supported by the current
CPU and their scaling factors (such as the pipeline width)
and perf stat then computes the formulas based on the
available metrics. This is similar how existing
perf metrics, such as TSC metrics or IPC, are implemented.

This abstracts all CPU pipe line specific knowledge in the
kernel driver, but still avoids the need for larger scale perf
interface changes.

For HyperThreading the any bit is needed to get accurate
values when both threads are executing. This implies that
the events can only be collected as root or with
perf_event_paranoid=-1 for now.

The basic scheme is based on the following paper:
Yasin, A Top Down Method for Performance analysis and Counter architecture ISPASS14 (pdf available via google)

a54fa07930 perf/x86/intel/uncore: Locate specific box by checking full device info
Some platforms, e.g. Knights Landing, use a common PCI device ID for
multiple instances of an uncore PMU device type. So it is impossible to
locate the specific instances only by PCI device ID.

The current code specially handles Knights Landing by arbitrarily pointing
an instance to an unused uncore box. However, we still have no idea
which uncore device is mapped to which box.

Furthermore, there could be more platforms which use a common PCI device ID
for uncore devices. We have to specially handle them one by one.

This patch records full device information (slot, func, and device ID)
in id_table[]. So the probe function can point the instance to a specific
uncore box by checking the full device information.

3b1fff0803 perf core: Add a 'nr' field to perf_event_callchain_context
We will use it to count how many addresses are in the entry->ip[] array,
excluding PERF_CONTEXT_{KERNEL,USER,etc} entries, so that we can really
return the number of entries specified by the user via the relevant
sysctl, kernel.perf_event_max_contexts, or via the per event
perf_event_attr.sample_max_stack knob.

This way we keep the perf_sample->ip_callchain->nr meaning, that is the
number of entries, be it real addresses or PERF_CONTEXT_ entries, while
honouring the max_stack knobs, i.e. the end result will be max_stack
entries if we have at least that many entries in a given stack trace.

5fbe4788b5 perf/x86/intel/pt: Generate PMI in the STOP region as well
Currently, the PT driver always sets the PMI bit one region (page) before
the STOP region so that we can wake up the consumer before we run out of
room in the buffer and have to disable the event. However, we also need
an interrupt in the last output region, so that we actually get to disable
the event (if no more room from new data is available at that point),
otherwise hardware just quietly refuses to start, but the event is
scheduled in and we end up losing trace data till the event gets removed.

For a cpu-wide event it is even worse since there may not be any
re-scheduling at all and no chance for the ring buffer code to notice
that its buffer is filled up and the event needs to be disabled (so that
the consumer can re-enable it when it finishes reading the data out). In
other words, all the trace data will be lost after the buffer gets filled
up.

This patch makes PT also generate a PMI when the last output region is
full.

cf3beb7c90 perf/x86/intel: Fix incorrect lbr_sel_mask value
This patch fixes a bug which was introduced by:

b16a5b52eb ("perf/x86: Add option to disable reading branch flags/cycles")

In this patch, lbr_sel_mask is used to mask the lbr_select. But LBR_SEL_MASK
doesn't include the bit for LBR_CALL_STACK. So LBR call stack will never be
set in lbr_select.

This patch corrects the LBR_SEL_MASK by including all valid bits in
LBR_SELECT. Also, the LBR_CALL_STACK bit is different as other bit in
LBR_SELECT. It does not operate in suppress mode, so it needs to be
specially handled in intel_pmu_setup_hw_lbr_filter.

on such a machine will kill it.

c5dfd78eb7 perf core: Allow setting up max frame stack depth via sysctl
The default remains 127, which is good for most cases, and not even hit
most of the time, but then for some cases, as reported by Brendan, 1024+
deep frames are appearing on the radar for things like groovy, ruby.

And in some workloads putting a _lower_ cap on this may make sense. One
that is per event still needs to be put in place tho.

The new file is:

  # cat /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_max_stack
  127

Chaging it:

  # echo 256 > /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_max_stack
  # cat /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_max_stack
  256

But as soon as there is some event using callchains we get:

  # echo 512 > /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_max_stack
-bash: echo: write error: Device or resource busy
  #

Because we only allocate the callchain percpu data structures when there
is a user, which allows for changing the max easily, its just a matter
of having no callchain users at that point.

dcee75b3b7 perf/x86/intel/rapl: Support Skylake RAPL domains
Add Skylake client support for RAPL domains. In addition to RAPL domains
in Broadwell clients, it has support for platform domain (aka PSys). The
PSys domain controls the entire SoC instead of just a CPU package. Unlike
package domain, PSys support requires more than just processor level
implementation. The other parts in the system need additional HW level
signaling, which OEMs need to support. When not supported, the energy
counter register in PSys domain returns 0.

Also corrected error in comment for GPU counter, which previously was
DRAM counter.

8b92c3a78d perf/x86/intel: Add Goldmont CPU support
Add perf core PMU support for Intel Goldmont CPU cores:

 - The init code is based on Silvermont.

 - There is a new cache event list, based on the Silvermont cache event list.

 - Goldmont has 32 LBR entries. It also uses new LBRv6 format, which
report the cycle information using upper 16-bit of the LBR_TO.

 - It's recommended to use CPU_CLK_UNHALTED.CORE_P + NPEBS for precise cycles.

For details, please refer to the latest SDM058:

f454bfddf6 perf/core, sched: Don't use clock function pointer to determine clock
Now that local_clock() is explicitly inlined in sched.h, taking its
pointer would uninline it in the compilation unit where it's done,
making (among other things) comparing pointers to this function
produce different results in different compilation units.

Case in point, x86 perf core's user page updating function compares
event's clock against &local_clock to see if it needs to set zero
time offset related bits in the page.

This patch fixes the latter by looking at the "use_clockid" event
attribute instead, to determine whether local clock is used. Fixing
the uninlined local_clock() in perf core is left as an exercise for
the author of the prior work.

d29859e777 x86/perf/intel/cstate: Sanitize error handling
There is no point in WARN_ON() inside of a well known init function. We
already know the call stack and it's really not of critical importance whether
the registration of a PMU fails.

Aside of that for consistency reasons it's just pointless to try to register
another PMU if the first register attempt failed. There is also no value in
keeping one PMU if the second one can not be registered.

Make it consistent so we can finaly modularize the driver.

49de0493e5 x86/perf/intel/cstate: Make cstate hotplug handling actually work
The current implementation aside of being an incomprehensible mess is broken.

  # cat /sys/bus/event_source/devices/cstate_core/cpumask
  0-17

That's on a quad socket machine with 72 physical cores! Qualitee stuff.

So it's not a surprise that event migration in case of CPU hotplug does not
work either.

  # perf stat -e cstate_core/c6-residency/ -C 1 sleep 60 &
  # echo 0 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online

Tracing cstate_pmu_event_update gives me:

 [001] cstate_pmu_event_update <-event_sched_out

After the fix it properly moves the event:

 [001] cstate_pmu_event_update <-event_sched_out
 [073] cstate_pmu_event_update <-__perf_event_read
 [073] cstate_pmu_event_update <-event_sched_out

The migration of pkg events does not work either. Not that I'm surprised.

I really could not be bothered to decode that loop mess and simply replaced it
by querying the proper cpumasks which give us the answer in a comprehensible
way.

This also requires to direct the event to the current active reader CPU in
cstate_pmu_event_init() otherwise the hotplug logic can't work.

c7ab62bfbe perf/x86/amd/power: Add AMD accumulated power reporting mechanism
Introduce an AMD accumlated power reporting mechanism for the Family
15h, Model 60h processor that can be used to calculate the average
power consumed by a processor during a measurement interval. The
feature support is indicated by CPUID Fn8000_0007_EDX[12].

This feature will be implemented both in hwmon and perf. The current
design provides one event to report per package/processor power
consumption by counting each compute unit power value.

Here the gory details of how the computation is done:

* Tsample: compute unit power accumulator sample period
* Tref: the PTSC counter period (PTSC: performance timestamp counter)
* N: the ratio of compute unit power accumulator sample period to the
  PTSC period

* Jmax: max compute unit accumulated power which is indicated by
  MSR_C001007b[MaxCpuSwPwrAcc]

* Jx/Jy: compute unit accumulated power which is indicated by
  MSR_C001007a[CpuSwPwrAcc]

* Tx/Ty: the value of performance timestamp counter which is indicated
  by CU_PTSC MSR_C0010280[PTSC]
* PwrCPUave: CPU average power

i. Determine the ratio of Tsample to Tref by executing CPUID Fn8000_0007.
	N = value of CPUID Fn8000_0007_ECX[CpuPwrSampleTimeRatio[15:0]].

ii. Read the full range of the cumulative energy value from the new
    MSR MaxCpuSwPwrAcc.
	Jmax = value returned.

iii. At time x, software reads CpuSwPwrAcc and samples the PTSC.
Jx = value read from CpuSwPwrAcc and Tx = value read from PTSC.

iv. At time y, software reads CpuSwPwrAcc and samples the PTSC.
Jy = value read from CpuSwPwrAcc and Ty = value read from PTSC.

v. Calculate the average power consumption for a compute unit over
time period (y-x). Unit of result is uWatt:

if (Jy < Jx) // Rollover has occurred
		Jdelta = (Jy + Jmax) - Jx
	else
		Jdelta = Jy - Jx
	PwrCPUave = N * Jdelta * 1000 / (Ty - Tx)

e7ee3e8cb5 perf/x86/mbm: Add support for MBM counter overflow handling
This patch adds a per package timer which periodically updates the
memory bandwidth counters for the events that are currently active.

Current patch has a periodic timer every 1s since the SDM guarantees
that the counter will not overflow in 1s but this time can be definitely
improved by calibrating on the system. The overflow is really a function
of the max memory b/w that the socket can support, max counter value and
scaling factor.

2d4de8376f perf/x86/mbm: Implement RMID recycling
RMID could be allocated or deallocated as part of RMID recycling.

When an RMID is allocated for MBM event, the MBM counter needs to be
initialized because next time we read the counter we need the previous
value to account for total bytes that went to the memory controller.

Similarly, when RMID is deallocated we need to update the ->count
variable.

87f01cc2a2 perf/x86/mbm: Add memory bandwidth monitoring event management
Includes all the core infrastructure to measure the total_bytes and
bandwidth.

We have per socket counters for both total system wide L3 external
bytes and local socket memory-controller bytes. The OS does MSR writes
to MSR_IA32_QM_EVTSEL and MSR_IA32_QM_CTR to read the counters and
uses the IA32_PQR_ASSOC_MSR to associate the RMID with the task. The
tasks have a common RMID for CQM (cache quality of service monitoring)
and MBM. Hence most of the scheduling code is reused from CQM.

33c3cc7acf perf/x86/mbm: Add Intel Memory B/W Monitoring enumeration and init
The MBM init patch enumerates the Intel MBM (Memory b/w monitoring)
and initializes the perf events and datastructures for monitoring the
memory b/w.

Its based on original patch series by Tony Luck and Kanaka Juvva.

Memory bandwidth monitoring (MBM) provides OS/VMM a way to monitor
bandwidth from one level of cache to another. The current patches
support L3 external bandwidth monitoring. It supports both 'local
bandwidth' and 'total bandwidth' monitoring for the socket. Local
bandwidth measures the amount of data sent through the memory controller
on the socket and total b/w measures the total system bandwidth.

Extending the cache quality of service monitoring (CQM) we add two
more events to the perf infrastructure:

intel_cqm_llc/local_bytes - bytes sent through local socket memory controller
  intel_cqm_llc/total_bytes - total L3 external bytes sent

The tasks are associated with a Resouce Monitoring ID (RMID) just like
in CQM and OS uses a MSR write to indicate the RMID of the task during
scheduling.
