This is an adaptation of commit f3a112c0c4 ("x86,rethook,kprobes:
Replace kretprobe with rethook on x86") to powerpc.
Rethook follows the existing kretprobe implementation, but separates
it from kprobes so that it can be used by fprobe (ftrace-based
function entry/exit probes). As such, this patch also enables fprobe
to work on powerpc. The only other change compared to the existing
kretprobe implementation is doing the return address fixup in
arch_rethook_fixup_return().
Reference to other archs:
commit b57c2f1240 ("riscv: add riscv rethook implementation")
commit 7b0a096436 ("LoongArch: Replace kretprobe with rethook")
Note:
=====
In future, rethook will be only for kretprobe, and kretprobe
will be replaced by fprobe.

We will adapt the above implementation for powerpc once its upstream.
Until then, we can have this implementation of rethook to serve
current kretprobe usecases.

Inheriting the DEXCR across exec can have security and usability
concerns. If a program is compiled with hash instructions it generally
expects to run with NPHIE enabled. But if the parent process disables
NPHIE then if it's not careful it will be disabled for any children too
and the protection offered by hash checks is basically worthless.
This patch introduces a per-process reset value that new execs in a
particular process tree are initialized with. This enables fine grained
control over what DEXCR value child processes run with by default.
For example, containers running legacy binaries that expect hash
instructions to act as NOPs could configure the reset value of the
container root to control the default reset value for all members of
the container.

powerpc 32-bit system call (and function) calling convention for 64-bit
arguments requires the next available odd-pair (two sequential registers
with the first being odd-numbered) from the standard register argument
allocation.
The first argument register is r3, so a 64-bit argument that appears at
an even position in the argument list must skip a register (unless there
were preceding 64-bit arguments, which might throw things off). This
requires non-standard compat definitions to deal with the holes in the
argument register allocation.
With pt_regs syscall wrappers which use a standard mapper to map pt_regs
GPRs to function arguments, 32-bit kernels hit the same basic problem,
the standard definitions don't cope with the unused argument registers.
Fix this by having 32-bit kernels share those syscall definitions with
compat.
Thanks to Jason for spending a lot of time finding and bisecting this
and developing a trivial reproducer. The perfect bug report.

- arch/$(SRCARCH)/Makefile adds them to head-y in order to place
them before other archives in the linker command line.
- arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile adds them to extra-y instead of
obj-y to avoid them going into built-in.a.
This commit gets rid of the latter.
Create vmlinux.a to collect all the objects that are unconditionally
linked to vmlinux. The objects listed in head-y are moved to the head
of vmlinux.a by using 'ar m'.
With this, arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile can consistently use obj-y
for builtin objects.
There is no *.o that is directly linked to vmlinux. Drop unneeded code
in scripts/clang-tools/gen_compile_commands.py.
$(AR) mPi needs 'T' to workaround the llvm-ar bug. The fix was suggested
by Nathan Chancellor [1].

Add support for adding a random offset to the stack while handling
syscalls. This patch uses mftb() instead of get_random_int() for better
performance.
In order to avoid unconditional stack canaries on syscall entry (due to
the use of alloca()), also disable stack protector to avoid triggering
needless checks and slowing down the entry path. As there is no general
way to control stack protector coverage with a function attribute, this
must be disabled at the compilation unit level.

This is a lead-up patch to enable syscall stack randomization, which
uses alloca() and makes the compiler add unconditional stack canaries
on syscall entry. In order to avoid triggering needless checks and
slowing down the entry path, the feature needs to disable stack
protector at the compilation unit level as there is no general way to
control stack protector coverage with a function attribute.
So move system_call_exception() to syscall.c to avoid affecting other

With GCC 12 allmodconfig prom_init fails to build:
Error: External symbol 'memset' referenced from prom_init.c
make[2]: *** [arch/powerpc/kernel/Makefile:204: arch/powerpc/kernel/prom_init_check] Error 1
The allmodconfig build enables KASAN, so all calls to memset in
prom_init should be converted to __memset by the #ifdefs in
asm/string.h, because prom_init must use the non-KASAN instrumented
versions.
The build failure happens because there's a call to memset that hasn't
been caught by the pre-processor and converted to __memset. Typically
that's because it's a memset generated by the compiler itself, and that
is the case here.
With GCC 12, allmodconfig enables CONFIG_INIT_STACK_ALL_PATTERN, which
causes the compiler to emit memset calls to initialise on-stack
variables with a pattern.
Because prom_init is non-user-facing boot-time only code, as a
workaround just disable stack variable initialisation to unbreak the
build.

Implement a limited form of KASAN for Book3S 64-bit machines running under
the Radix MMU, supporting only outline mode.
- Enable the compiler instrumentation to check addresses and maintain the
shadow region. (This is the guts of KASAN which we can easily reuse.)
- Require kasan-vmalloc support to handle modules and anything else in
vmalloc space.
- KASAN needs to be able to validate all pointer accesses, but we can't
instrument all kernel addresses - only linear map and vmalloc. On boot,
set up a single page of read-only shadow that marks all iomap and
vmemmap accesses as valid.
- Document KASAN in powerpc docs.
Background
----------
KASAN support on Book3S is a bit tricky to get right:
- It would be good to support inline instrumentation so as to be able to
catch stack issues that cannot be caught with outline mode.
- Inline instrumentation requires a fixed offset.
- Book3S runs code with translations off ("real mode") during boot,
including a lot of generic device-tree parsing code which is used to
determine MMU features.
[ppc64 mm note: The kernel installs a linear mapping at effective
address c000...-c008.... This is a one-to-one mapping with physical
memory from 0000... onward. Because of how memory accesses work on
powerpc 64-bit Book3S, a kernel pointer in the linear map accesses the
same memory both with translations on (accessing as an 'effective
address'), and with translations off (accessing as a 'real
address'). This works in both guests and the hypervisor. For more
details, see s5.7 of Book III of version 3 of the ISA, in particular
the Storage Control Overview, s5.7.3, and s5.7.5 - noting that this
KASAN implementation currently only supports Radix.]
- Some code - most notably a lot of KVM code - also runs with translations
off after boot.
- Therefore any offset has to point to memory that is valid with
translations on or off.
One approach is just to give up on inline instrumentation. This way
boot-time checks can be delayed until after the MMU is set is up, and we
can just not instrument any code that runs with translations off after
booting. Take this approach for now and require outline instrumentation.
Previous attempts allowed inline instrumentation. However, they came with
some unfortunate restrictions: only physically contiguous memory could be
used and it had to be specified at compile time. Maybe we can do better in
the future.
[paulus@ozlabs.org - Rebased onto 5.17. Note that a kernel with
CONFIG_KASAN=y will crash during boot on a machine using HPT
translation because not all the entry points to the generic
KASAN code are protected with a call to kasan_arch_is_ready().]

Boot fails with GCC latent entropy plugin enabled.
This is due to early boot functions trying to access 'latent_entropy'
global data while the kernel is not relocated at its final
destination yet.
As there is no way to tell GCC to use PTRRELOC() to access it,
disable latent entropy plugin in early_32.o and feature-fixups.o and
code-patching.o

Add support for out-of-line static calls on PPC32. This change
improve performance of calls to global function pointers by
using direct calls instead of indirect calls.
The trampoline is initialy populated with a 'blr' or branch to target,
followed by an unreachable long jump sequence.
In order to cater with parallele execution, the trampoline needs to
be updated in a way that ensures it remains consistent at all time.
This means we can't use the traditional lis/addi to load r12 with
the target address, otherwise there would be a window during which
the first instruction contains the upper part of the new target
address while the second instruction still contains the lower part of
the old target address. To avoid that the target address is stored
just after the 'bctr' and loaded from there with a single instruction.
Then, depending on the target distance, arch_static_call_transform()
will either replace the first instruction by a direct 'bl <target>' or
'nop' in order to have the trampoline fall through the long jump
sequence.
For the special case of __static_call_return0(), to avoid the risk of
a far branch, a version of it is inlined at the end of the trampoline.
Performancewise the long jump sequence is probably not better than
the indirect calls set by GCC when we don't use static calls, but
such calls are unlikely to be required on powerpc32: With most
configurations the kernel size is far below 32 Mbytes so only
modules may happen to be too far. And even modules are likely to
be close enough as they are allocated below the kernel core and
as close as possible of the kernel text.
static_call selftest is running successfully with this change.

vgettimeofday.o is unnecessarily rebuilt. Adding it to 'targets' is not
enough to fix the issue. Kbuild is correctly rebuilding it because the
command line is changed.
PowerPC builds each vdso directory twice; first in vdso_prepare to
generate vdso{32,64}-offsets.h, second as part of the ordinary build
process to embed vdso{32,64}.so.dbg into the kernel.
The problem shows up when CONFIG_PPC_WERROR=y due to the following line
in arch/powerpc/Kbuild:
subdir-ccflags-$(CONFIG_PPC_WERROR) := -Werror
In the preparation stage, Kbuild directly visits the vdso directories,
hence it does not inherit subdir-ccflags-y. In the second descend,
Kbuild adds -Werror, which results in the command line flipping
with/without -Werror.
It implies a potential danger; if a more critical flag that would impact
the resulted vdso, the offsets recorded in the headers might be different
from real offsets in the embedded vdso images.
Removing the unneeded second descend solves the problem.

Commit 7053f80d96 ("powerpc/64: Prevent stack protection in early
boot") introduced a couple of uses of __attribute__((optimize)) with
function scope, to disable the stack protector in some early boot
code.
Unfortunately, and this is documented in the GCC man pages [0],
overriding function attributes for optimization is broken, and is only
supported for debug scenarios, not for production: the problem appears
to be that setting GCC -f flags using this method will cause it to
forget about some or all other optimization settings that have been
applied.
So the only safe way to disable the stack protector is to disable it
for the entire source file.

Unlike PPC64 which had a single head_64.S, PPC32 are multiple ones.
There is the head_32.S, selected by default based on the value of BITS
and overridden based on some CONFIG_ values. This leads to thinking
that it may be selected by different types of PPC32 platform but
indeed it ends up being selected by book3s/32 only.
Make that explicit by:
- Not doing any default selection based on BITS.
- Renaming head_32.S to head_book3s_32.S.
- Get head_book3s_32.S selected only by CONFIG_PPC_BOOK3S_32.

KVM guests have certain restrictions and performance quirks when using
doorbells. This patch moves the EPAPR KVM guest test so it can be shared
with PSERIES, and uses that in doorbell setup code to apply the KVM
guest quirks and improves IPI performance for two cases:
- PowerVM guests may now use doorbells even if they are secure.
- KVM guests no longer use doorbells if XIVE is available.
There is a valid complaint that "KVM guest" is not a very reasonable
thing to test for, it's preferable for the hypervisor to advertise
particular behaviours to the guest so they could change if the
hypervisor implementation or configuration changes. However in this case
we were already assuming a KVM guest worst case, so this patch is about
containing those quirks. If KVM later advertises fast doorbells, we
should test for that and override the quirks.

initialises an eeh_dev based on a pci_dn. This is only ever called from
pci_dn.c so move it into there and remove the file.

Some Makefiles already pass -fno-stack-protector unconditionally.
For example, arch/arm64/kernel/vdso/Makefile, arch/x86/xen/Makefile.
No problem report so far about hard-coding this option. So, we can
assume all supported compilers know -fno-stack-protector.
GCC 4.8 and Clang support this option (https://godbolt.org/z/_HDGzN)
Get rid of cc-option from -fno-stack-protector.
Remove CONFIG_CC_HAS_STACKPROTECTOR_NONE, which is always 'y'.
Note:
arch/mips/vdso/Makefile adds -fno-stack-protector twice, first
unconditionally, and second conditionally. I removed the second one.

System call entry and particularly exit code is beyond the limit of
what is reasonable to implement in asm.
This conversion moves all conditional branches out of the asm code,
except for the case that all GPRs should be restored at exit.
Null syscall test is about 5% faster after this patch, because the
exit work is handled under local_irq_disable, and the hard mask and
pending interrupt replay is handled after that, which avoids games
with MSR.
mpe: Includes subsequent fixes from Nick:
This fixes 4 issues caught by TM selftests. First was a tm-syscall bug
that hit due to tabort_syscall being called after interrupts were
reconciled (in a subsequent patch), which led to interrupts being
enabled before tabort_syscall was called. Rather than going through an
un-reconciling interrupts for the return, I just go back to putting
the test early in asm, the C-ification of that wasn't a big win
anyway.
Second is the syscall return _TIF_USER_WORK_MASK check would go into
an infinite loop if _TIF_RESTORE_TM became set. The asm code uses
_TIF_USER_WORK_MASK to brach to slowpath which includes
restore_tm_state.
Third is system call return was not calling restore_tm_state, I missed
this completely (alhtough it's in the return from interrupt C
conversion because when the asm syscall code encountered problems it
would branch to the interrupt return code.
Fourth is MSR_VEC missing from restore_math, which was caught by
tm-unavailable selftest taking an unexpected facility unavailable
interrupt when testing VSX unavailble exception with MSR.FP=1
MSR.VEC=1. Fourth case also has a fixup in a subsequent patch.
